PYRO, or anyone else with any ideas..
« on: May 27, 2000, 12:31:00 AM »
First qvvvestioon is to Pyro; will the A5 differ in flight characteristics in a significant way, or will it just do a few things just a little better? WIth the next update coming up within 14 days^the number of times one asks "when, my curiosity grows.

Hristo mentioned lighter wingloading, which would mean a better turn performance and better climb rate. What more can I expect?

Oooh, can I expect it to be more tolerant during high g maneuvers? Flying the G10 has just taught me to "pull pull pull, this brick cannot break".

Thanks in advance

Fw 190A-5 is 1000lbs lighter and has less drag(no fixed centreline rack) than the A-8. So it will do everything(except maybe dive) better.

The only disadvantage is the lower firepower, as it has 7.92mm instead of 13mm cowl guns and the outer 20mm are the slower(ROF and MV) MGFF. Maybe it has less armour too, but that's insignificant.

That 1000 lb difference is for a two-cannon A-5 vs. a four-cannon A-8.

AFAIK the A-5 did not have the boost override system that the A-8 had, so you may see a speed decrease at low altitude.

I wonder where you lost those 2 cannons from A-5, is it just so that MG-FF does not have any use?

Fishu, very many (probably the majority) of Fw 190A-3/A-4/A-5 flew with only two cannons.

The weight difference Juzz quoted is only true for that configuration.

And who wants MGFF?

Fw190A5 is a fighter killer. 2x20mm will be enuff...but I'd sure want to erase the 7.92mm,too.

I find them worthless.

Just wait until we have ground troops and trucks to strafe.

OK but let's assume you are in a 1943 HA.

Then the huge ammo load of 7.92 mm becomes entertaining.
