First post: Going to try my hand at skinning
« on: February 23, 2009, 01:07:47 PM »
Hi guys.

I'm not typically in this forum, but I have the urge to try my hand at creating a skin and giving a little something back to the game, besides my $15.

Ive browsed through the "under construction/in progress" thread that is stickied at the top, but I'm having a slight amount of difficulty identifying (visually - as opposed to unit/aircraft designation) what has and has not been done/what is and is not being done.

To that end, I thought I would ask you all for some recommendations.  I don't want to step on anyone's toes (current projects) and I figure there are people in here who know a whole hell of a lot more than I do about what is really in the works for official adoption by HTC.

Since my only criteria is that I would like to try skinning a non-Emil 109 or a short-nosed 190, what would you all like to see done that no one is currently working on?

Thanks.  :)

262?

or

Another 109G-6 night Fighter?

Personally I'm partial to a P-51B/F-6C.  Probably too many already anyway.

Good luck

Larry, I started skinning about two months ago, with the 262 with the stripped pattern, flown by Rudolf Sinner as my first skin. Its all done with the exception of some minor weathering. I've said in one or two posts in the aircraft and vehicles forum that I've started work on it. I hope thats not the one you've started working on.

Well the profile saying there is no photo showing the Gruppe bar is wrong & for that matter so is this profile compared to the 2nd photo as to the direction of the stripes. Maybe the opposite side of the plane with a reversed negative? Or maybe he had 2 aircraft at some point or a re-paint?

Yes, the model shown therein the profile is the one he flew with the viking racks for experimental use of the WGr, 21cm rockets. The model of his plane that I'm skinning is the combat model that he fought his last battles in before getting strafed down by several mustangs. It has 7 stripes running down the fuselage, compared to the rocket hauling model that has 5 stripes running the opposite direction. The one I'm skinning is the plane pictured in the right, because I have three pictures of her, the one below, one on takeoff, one with her in the background and several profiles from the internet.

Will HTC accept a skin from a variant not in-game?

For example, a 109G6 A/S skin on a 109G6?

They should but just to make sure you could always email them and ask. support@hitechcreations.com

Yes that is the one I'm working on. Not to be rude but when you start on a skin you need to say it in this forum and not the AaV forum.

Edit: I did a little search and there was only one post by you mentioning that skin and from the wording it seems you didn't start it yet and that was on Feb. 3rd.

Google Rudolf Sinner Me-262, I have a couple of combat shots of the bird, it basically looks like a candy cane of RLM 82 and RLM 83 all down the fuselage. I'm going to try and skin the bird as my first attempt. The Germans did know how to experiment with camouflage this plane is no exception.

I'm sorry, but being new to this I don't know everything about what I'm supposed to do when I start a new skin. I'm sorry if I might have caused you any trouble in that regard.

Also, that post was not made to claim the skin, it was made to further the thread in interesting paint-jobs. The phrase "going to try" was a typo on my part, I should have said "I am currently working on".  Also, according to Gimp the first saved file of the skin was last worked on on December 30, about two months ago.

I think you both should post pictures and we can vote on which we like the best. After all, thats what you guys are working towards, getting the best skins into the game.
