All forms of gun control are, at this point, nothing more than political posturing. A new Assault ban would be hard for many to vote against, and would receive widespread support from almost anyone that doesn't believe in 'Slippery Slope' - it's all too easy to to bring up the specter of some kid getting an AR-15 and going running into a school spraying on full auto. Doesn't matter that it does not happen - it's an image that the uninformed think very possible. If such legislation passed, whoever proposed it gets to wave around a piece of paper and go 'Oh, look at me! I have made America safer!'
