Offline vs Online damage models? Easier offline.
« on: February 28, 2009, 05:19:53 PM »

I was flying around trying to get used to flying these CH pro pedals.....again...(going up on ebay soon) and noticed a remarkable difference between online and offline modes.
Just wondering if the damage models were made 'easier' offline.  A single nanosquirt with cannons and a plane explodes or flames.

Online, to get the same effect I have to pour 4x the ammo into a plane.

So one has to wonder, is our netlag really that poorly predicted in the code?

You can change the damgae offline, but it's a tweak you have to go in and do.

If you have not tweaked it, then online/offline is the same damage.

It is easier hitting planes doing gentle turns and not maneuvering hence it seems like you are doing more damage.

Why are you quitting on them?  I felt the same way when I made the switch but trusted the good pilots around me that told me to stick with them.  I'm beyond glad that I did.

I dunno man.  Honestly I have them down to where I need them.  ALL CH pedals have an issue with not being able to absolute zero.  Not big deal, corrected that.

I guess my desk setup isn't conducive to a relaxing flight.  It's too short so I have to stretch out too far so my legs don't hit the desk.  I'm not uber tall either so.  Don't really want to ditch the desk as this is the only time it has been an issue...plus it's a pretty elite desk.

I did notice that I enjoy the realism a bit more but whenever my dull brain would fixate on something I'd realize that I didn't have my feet at center.  Maybe if they had some tension adjustment to make them harder to move.

One KEY thing I would suggest for anyone using these is to have a large dead band and scaling.  Helps with the lazy legs.

I dunno.  Maybe I'll keep them for my plasma ultra realism setup I'm planning on :)

One thing that helped me out a lot was how I positioned my feet on the pedals, I actually don't rest them completely on pedal.  I actually rest the heel on the base plate to the pedals and just have my toes/balls of my feet on the pedal itself.  This lets me makes small adjustments without having to move my entire leg.

Exactly what I do.  Lets me rest my legs to the side also so they dont hit the top of my desk.  I just figured this out naturally from trial and error.

Sincraft, my afterschool flightclub instructor tells his students to use their toes on the pedals, not their entire feet. It seems to help in MS2004.

Damage models are the same, but the planes will die much quicker because if you take off certain components the drone will exlpode, in the arena it is the pilots choice to bail or not.

As an example, if you take off the wing tip, in the game most pilots will keep flying, offline the drone will simply explode.

As far as feet not centered, when learning formation I would have that trouble, my feet would want to push me away from the plane, while my hand was try to hold tight position, would end up with almost 50% rudder before I noticed.

Also on bumpy days flying cross country, I will suddenly notice that my toes are hurting because both feet are pushing very hard on the pedals. I then remove my feet from the pedals, and let the plane fish tail for a while. Not sure why but the RV oscillates more if you do not hold the rudder from moving.

But other than the formation , I am always amazed how your back side just automatically keeps the ball centered.

? ? ? ?

Offline I've shot off both complete wings and the a/c simply keeps flying looking like a torpedo with a propeller.  Although at other times it does seem like the plane explodes with one quick burst of MG's.  Why the diference?  Also, why is it that when you set the planes on fire offline, they never blow up, but continue to circle forever?  Kinda like Zero's in the MA . . .

I think he's talking about the off-line AI mission planes, NOT to drones the circle the field in the off-line practice.

That's a strange problem you describe with your CH pedals not centering.  I have pro-pedals and I have absolutely zero issues with keeping them centered.  Like others said above, I can't fly without them.  You are so limited in the ACM you can perform without pedals; you almost have to just BnZ if you're using the keyboard.

As the others said, I'm only 5' 9" and I have issues with my knees hitting the desk.  If I buy another desk, I'll make sure it's a little on the tall side.

lol..I would have never buyed CH pedals for that reason. Even with using Simpeds which have their pedals set much wider apart than CH, my legs are very awkwardly positioned under the desk. Almost tailor-seat like. But then I'm almost 1 foot taller than you ;)
