Smells Fishy
« on: March 06, 2009, 06:18:56 PM »
Well i just finish reading a couple topics in the wishlist forum and I would like to ask a public opinion. Why is it that when bombers are hitting strats or when a buff raid is going to attack a strat facility it's considered stat padding? I've seen some stat padding but how is bombing the only logical target to disabling the respawn rate of a specific airfield utility considered stat padding? I'm lost...

I think it's not so much the action itself but the intent.  In order to really affect strats you need to take down the city, then the strats.  I think the "Stat Padding" accusation comes in when someone bombs strats with not enough resources to actually make a difference to the strats.

For example:  Stuka with the BIG bomb.  Single Lanc, or any single bomber.  Hitting Strat targets expecting little or no opposition.

I've seen actual Strat bombing missions where you would take multiple boxes of bombers and hit a city and strat targets in succession with enough force to actually make a difference in resupply times to bases.  More often than not, however, it is one person hitting a strat target unopposed.

But, technically, if you are a SHawk, oops, padder, if you're a padder.......  The only strat you hit is actually the city.    I suppose it's clear AWwrgwy isn't not one of those bad people!  Cause hitting the regular strat's don't help the score potato's as much as the people might think.  (Damage per sortie DaddyO)

Meh, personally I'll do what I want to do - if its ok with everyone else (or not, as the case may be). If I get bored, I'll up an osti and go attack anything.

If I dont fit in with what your expectations are - unlucky frankly. That said, if somone asks for supp's etc, I'll bring em. I'll up fighters, bombers, gv's - whatever I feel like.

I think the the bomber guys get the "guff" because they bomb at max speed, with an "easy mode" bomb sight, get bag load of .50 cals that seem like 20mm that reach out to 800 yrds, can dive bomb a 4 engine lanc with no stress damage etc etc etc....

In real life in WWII not many bomber crews completed their 25 missions, which why they made such a big deal of the "Memphis Belle" cause her crew did.  In AH it is also tuff on the bomber guys but not NEARLY as tough as it was the "real" guys.

The damage hit percentage stat rewards hitting strats far more than hitting hangars or other field objects.  That's why it's considered score padding.

Generally when I decide to go bombing (which happens occaisionally) I hop in my JU88 and bomb strats because if I hit the strat I can (slightly) affect the war effort for my country without helping to ruin a fight at an airfield that people are having fun fighting at by shutting down the field and thus ruining the fight..

If that makes me a stat padder then so be it  :D

In AH it's even worse. 25 sorties without getting shot down is extremely rare for any buff pilot in Aces High. If you wan't to do that, you have to invest a lot of gametime climbing to altitudes far above the averages for AH. And even then you mostly just survive because unlike "real world", most players just don't bother to intercept you.
