For the hell of it I tossed Star Trek II into the DVD player today.

If Paramount wants to "fix" Star Trek, they should take a cue from Wrath of Khan. Out of all the films in the series and both crews, this is THE best Star Trek movie and one of the best movies ever made PERIOD. And it's not the special effects, or the action, or the technobabble. It's the CHARACTERS.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

J.J. Abrams needs to be shot.  If you loved Cloverfield, I'm sure you'll love the new Star Trek.     Looks like Star Trek is turning into Pearl Harbor from the looks of the trailer, great...

Kind of makes ya wonder what would Abrams do if he did a Star Wars remake. What would the X-wing fighters look like?

I will not see it. I've had enough of beloved classics of my childhood being destroyed by Hollywood with pointless and meaningless remakes. If something is good enough to remake, then it's good enough TO LEAVE THE @#$% ALONE. THEY REDESIGNED THE FRICKIN' ENTERPRISE!!!!

yea man I hear you.  But it's better than what is out there.  I mean seriously have you seen?  Nothing but washed drama, cheesy black comedies, teenage promiscuity, anti american, or wanna be action films.

No imagination.  I thought the Dark Knight was crap really.  Meanwhile people touted it as the best thing since sliced bread.??/;lakjw;ljr390ra9ur

Very frustrating.  I feel like I'm watching paint dry when I rent movies now.  I used to look forward to the summer releases.  Sigh.

Where has the imagination gone?  Too much effort to produce profit instead of product.  With a good product comes profit.  Wash it down and box it pretty is all people do now adays.

My made in china lambswool car washing glove fell apart on me today.  Probably 20 total washes.  Ridiculous.  Again, another nice looking item on the outside with a pretty package.  Price wasn't cheap either.  More crap.

(again...steps off soapbox.)

West End Games--and now Wizards of the Coast--already beat Abrams to the punch of running Star Wars into the ground. Actually, they beat LUCAS to the punch. The rest of the EU authors haven't helped matters, either. As far as I'm concerned, the only REAL Star Wars is the ORIGINAL Original Trilogy, Timothy Zahn, Michael Stackpole, and I'll also accept Aaron Alliston, but ONLY up to Vision of the Future and the Union graphic novel. New Jedi Order NEVER HAPPENED. And Mara Jade is ALIVE, Golly-geemit! I'll accept Dark Empire, too, because the E-wing rocks.

Then again, at least WEG (for the most part) got the speeds of the different starfighters right. More than I can say for any of the OTHER games....

Janeway wasn't even all that good of a captain. Picard would beat her handily in combat, and Kirk...

Kirk would have just nailed her and moved on after she died tragically partway through the episode.

From the looks of the trailer this movie aims to get a new generation of trekkies into play. The cast is extremely young, the screenplay is aimed for ADD and the sex scenes were done with a bathing suite on.

I'd say it's aimed for 12-year olds.

from what I saw of one of the trailers there was a part when someone on the bridge says " we have no Capt, no first officer, who's gonna command?"
Kirk plops down in the command chair and says "
i will" or something to that effect

I dont recall in any book or movie regarding Kirks promotion of it happening that way, thought he was the youngest person to be promoted to Capt but never heard of him assuming command in the heat of battle like that. Maybe I missed something.

Abrams and hollydorks just completly rewrote alot of the trek history, dunno why, but, like alot of other people it really frosts my shades  :furious

I don't think that was kirk, but rather his father when he took command for 12 minutes when kirk was still a baby.

I can't believe how cheesy the 60's style uniforms look in this trailer.

... Michael Stackpole....

In BattleTech, we have a copyrighted term for when an otherwise competent ruler suddenly goes comic book evil or wall banging stupid, or when an entire army gets annihilated by one single warrior pulling off ridiculously impossible moves or outsmarting them with insanely simple plans- they've been "Stackpoled".

It also applies to rulers/nations/generals coming up with convoluted super-villain plans that Lex Luthor would be ashamed to own up to.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

It doesn't ring a bell. Are you sure it isn't "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha" ?

Oh wait. Is that the nagging robot copy of Harry Mudd's wife?
