Yes there is talent in rap. There are degrees of skill clearly. I don't see how you can argue this. I hate rap and in general think it is an awful form of music but to say there is no talent in it just because you hate it is foolish.
Grizz is right. Although I detest rap, and there are certainly other forms of music out there that require considerably more talent, it does take
some skill. My biggest problem with rap/hip-hop is the thuggish attitude that seems to go hand-in-hand with it. Sadly, that's it's defining quality. If only the Temptations or Four Tops had done more songs about capping cops or slappin' ho's when I was a kid, then maybe I'd get it.
But back to that skill thing... You ever held a gun sideways and actually hit anything?? It's hard! Give these guys some credit.
