TrackIR problem
« on: March 08, 2009, 01:04:58 PM »
OK, I was talking with Lusche about this problem, and I figured out how to quantify it a little better.

I'll try to draw a diagram, but I'll explain it using my big boy words first :)

Imagine that your in-game head position is inside of a sphere.  Your actual head position is a fixed point in or on this sphere.  If I leave my head in the default position, I've discovered that I have no problems at all.

However, if I move my head back or forward at all, when I rotate my point of view my head position actually moves as well.

For example, if I start out by moving my head position back behind the default position, so that it is on the back of the sphere, when I look UP my viewing position moves and comes to rest at the bottom of the sphere (basically my head is resting in the seat).  If I look left, my head position moves to the right side of the cockpit.  If I look right, my head position moves to the left side of the cockpit.  I'll try to draw a little diagram to explain it, but I think I did a pretty good job.

What I want to happen is my head stays where I put it, and rotates like normal.

Also... how do I put a picture into a post?

I cant even get a working link to this dang thing going :(

Hmmm...

I think I know what you're trying to describe.  I've never had any problems like this before, because my AH2 profile was the "global" or default profile for TIR.  I've since bought X-Plane 9 and had to create a profile for that, because of the TrueView/AH2 movement thing.  In AH2, I don't like to use TIR's TrueView, but in XPlane you have to.

Since I now have TIR picking a profile, sometimes I have to get into AH2 and then alt-tab to the TIR panel and back again for the head tracking in AH2 to work as normal.  Sometimes, the views move very strangely, something along the lines of what you are describing (although I'm not totally sure).

So, try getting into AH2 and if your views seem wierd, just alt-tab to the TIR screen and come back.  Maybe it'll help.

I have that "TrueView" thing ON.  Seems to work for me.  >shrug<

If you use TrueView, then don't use the "Move head realative" checkbox in AH2.  It's either one or the other.  It's just that I had some tracking issues and choose to not use TrueView with AH2.  There is no single "best" solution...use whatever works for you.  :)

I fly with True view checked in TIR profile, and with object relative move checked in game, have been for over a year.

I would tweak your forward and back settings..  I found I had MUCH better in game reaction if I turned the scaling for those 2 way down almost to 1:1.. with it way up I was getting alot of "snap to lap" and other anomalies.

Wow, I can't use the Trueview type settings.  I find that horribly disorienting.

Hat.  I have the clip, but the little emitter seems to lose the clip too easily.

Lusche sent me his settings, I don't have the same problem with his but the speed is too slow.  I think I'll adjust his upwards and use it as a base to try to find something that works for me.
