The winds of change.....
« on: March 09, 2009, 01:21:51 PM »
The other night Trotter and I dualed.  He's a good guy to dual and to converse with btw guys.  :salute

A conversation came up where some felt the game has changed.  Other than terrain and base modifications, my opinion that the game overall as a stregnth of the community is about the same.  I thought long and hard about this.

I think as some of us actually train and work to get better in this game, it may appear that the community is getting weaker so perhaps we should not think it has changed.  The game will always have its hotards and dweebs, but overall I am happy with this game.

Some vets who quit the game I get the sense they could not get better, plateaued, or got so good it was no longer a challenge.  That is perhaps true.  I seen Gods among men in the DA stop logging in because of this I would suspect.

What do you guys think?

I think I should stop reading the general discussion board.......its the same ten topics posted over and over again, year after year.

D, in all honesty... I'll just throw the question out there.

Do you think that the community, and in tandem with same the quality of the gameplay, has deteriorated from what it was 10 years ago or, by contrast, do you feel as though no substantial change has been realized?

In an effort to avoid misunderstanding, 'gameplay' is exclusive of 'the game.'

Catch-22, I know.  You are concerned that you might be shooting yourself in the foot with your answer, but I think that many of us who grew up playing the games you had a hand in creating would be appreciative of your input.

Thanks.

I'm overall satisfied with the game.  While MA gameplay can be lame at times, overall, I am able to find what I am looking for.  The Dueling Arena needs a dramatic overhaul though.  I think some people fly exclusively at furball lake because of MA frame rate issues and that is their way of getting fights.  You can't blame them for that.  But most DA'ers have no intention of finding fair fights or 'dueling'.  The DA squads aren't even in the Squad Dueling League.  Here's the simplest solution:

Disabling "Name in the Lights" messages in the DA to shift people's incentives from getting pats on the back to getting respect from their opponent after a good fight.  I think players would lose their incentive to fly perk planes, pick from above, and avoid ACM.  If you pick and land 8 kills, no one else will see what you 'accomplished'.  Your opponents that you cherry picked aren't going to salute you and no one else will know you landed kills.  It will become pointless very fast to fly like this.

The dueling arena has turned into a mini main arena for a lot of pilots and I don't think this is in the vision of what the Dueling Arena should represent. The pilots that care about name in the lights can migrate to the main arena where anything goes there.  I think a pure dueling arena is key for players to become better pilots fast.  Skilllessness in the MA and the current state of the dueling arena do have a correlation.

This is a good idea for all arenas.
