The Sun, The Moon, and the Stars - literally!
« on: March 10, 2009, 07:54:20 PM »
The sun looks like it's modeled after some b rated sci fi movie.
Ever fly?  The glare produce from this alien sun at a VERY small angle is so blinding it's almost as if someone is staring directly into the sun.  Yet, off angle left or right 1 degree and it's gone, but up or down and it's just as vicious.  VERY BIZARRE SUN MODELING TO SAY THE LEAST.
This is my main wish, to have this fixed.

Along with this though would be:

The moon is 50x the size of the real moon, and the stars too often look like approaching cons.

The real reason for this post was the sun thing but hey, it's a good title too!

The only way I'd support this is if we could see the flare from the engines. ;)

And I don't like the way the grass looks......... Kind of flat!

Oops, sorry, didn't mean to hijack.

But really..........  What you're asking for is a more realistic sun?  So there is a 13 degree shift that you are blind in?  I like realism but I do hate that sun, as easy as it is now.

Night would be a bad thing to bring back...... Maybe just once a week even.

Is it the fact that we don't have night fighters with radars?

Don't need it, all of our planes have access to radar that is way way better than anything available in WW2.

I miss the brief period of night time we used to have.  I thought HTC had it perfect.  It went all the way to dark.  Then dawn started.  I thought this was a very elegant solution.  It was just enough night to get the point across.

Despite all the complaining from the players the real truth is/was that it was only dark for about 15min from pre-night ...to night... to  post-night.  So for that 15min it was hard to see, but that was the whole point.

I never could understand why this 15min was such a huge issue for players?  They cried like little children until it was taken away from us.  Frankly I embraced the dark.  When I saw it coming on I would either up a fighter with a real dark color (they didn't have skins at this time).  Or I would up a RAF style night flight.  Or even up a GV.  It was fun damnit!  I really looked forward to it!

Remember seeing the the ground in the glow of the full moon? ...or the lovely sunset, sunrise routines? ....or looking up into a sky filled with stars? ....sadly today's players have never even seen them.  It was also nice to see a "new day" start in aces....the way it is today it feels like one continuous 365 day,  and that is the very definition of "Lame".  Today players get cheated out of all this beauty...they have never seen them.

I stand firm in my stance,  HTC had it perfect! ...as usual the player base ruined it by complaining it out of existence because they could not handle 15min.. ...sad ain't it?

People use the search !! There was a big thread all about bringing night back, had people voting and everything, until HT stepped in and said night time was NEVER going to happen again.
