6 vs 1
« on: March 11, 2009, 12:43:29 AM »
you make some costly mistakes in SA
and you find yourself flying into 6 enemy contacts a few high and a few co alt and a few below
a couple of the contacts are flying faster planes and a few are flying slower but more agile planes

I just wanted to hear what everyone else does in situations like this, where you are ganged and escape does not seem likely

when it happens to me, I know am going to die but I want to make it as hard as possible, so I dive to the deck and turn it into a dirty knife fight on the deck.

it happen to me a few nights ago, I was flying a FM2 and found myself facing 6 cons  and I chose to dive to the deck and try for overshoots, augers,  I find it thrilling to see how well I can do in these situations

I try to level out for speed first. Then go into a slow climb, like a roc 1 or something, and get equal to or above the highest con and start working them down if I can. The main thing for me is to keep fast and try to get above them so I can fight one at a time.

Costly mistakes in SA? What have you been drinking?  :D

Dont dive for the deck so you have available some potential E. Dont fixate on the one you are shooting. Kill the most dangerous one first which means you have to watch the cons and figure out which one is doing the best job and kill him first. Once you decide to make a move dont second guess but carry out your plan (but observe the rule about fixating). Constantly assess the cons for changes in their behavior. Fly to your strengths and their weaknesses.

I am frequently surprised when engaged one on one even how many people get scared by the simplest moves like rolling scissors. Its unfamiliar to a lot of people and they get lost in it quickly. Experience is life.

EDIT: Be aware that if a turning con suddenly isnt turning its a setup.

Are all cons in icon range?

If so it may be too late to climb to the highest con.  Please clarify.

Its the best way to fly. Constant combat. You know you are committed so you fly the best you can, make a few auger, take a few pot shots here and there, whittle them down. Its tough to come out alive in this situation, but you can usually take alot with ya. Depends alot on the quality of the opposition.

The first few seconds of this setup can really help you out. Its that moment of over confidence and indecision on their part, not wanting to steal a kill from a buddy, and dumping their advantages in e and position that can cost them a couple guys quick.

Kill the one you can kill the fastest and easiest first. Lower the odds, the quicker you can do this the better.
That includes HO, and any other dirty trick you can think of. Accept that even in 3 vs 1 your probably going to go down in flames. But you'll learn in doing so, so give it your best shot.

Don't worry too much about the ones behind you.
Don't miss if you get a shot, any shot.

And if you get a shot, don't spend too much time on it.  Shoot and scoot.

I work on getting the fight right on the deck over trees. Trees are some of my best wingmen. I roll and change direction alot never race tracking vertical or horizontal. This is where learning to fly your plane with the least amount of airspeed comes in handy. You'll find the MMMS (mine mine mine syndrome) strong in most groups. Use that to your advantage and watch as they killshoot themselves into oblivion. Never just give up and you'll be surprised how the tide can turn as they thin out.
