Vista 64-bit

Hey all, last semester I was enrolled into the MSDN academic alliance program from Microsoft. Before it expired, I made sure I got all the software I could off of there. I was able to get a few codes for Vista Business 64-bit. I have been running 32 bit vista on my regular computer for a while and its fine..i don't really have any issues. I was thinking of reformatting my gaming computer with Vista 64. My question is: Does AH have any special problems with Vista 64? Or are there any other problems I should look for when using a 64 bit os? I have never installed one before.  Thanks.

As far as AH2 goes, just install it somewhere other than Program Files; I installed mine in C:\Games\AH2.

As of right now, flash player isn't compatible with IE 64-bit.  You might find other odd things, but for the most part should be fine.

First of all (as ImADot said) make sure you do not have it installed in the default location. I believe you cannot just move the game to another folder but you CAN install the game again to another location and then copy and paste all of your files to that folder if you already have it installed or whatever. I prefer to have AH installed on a second drive (not just a second partition) and I use a second drive for games anyway.

Second (if you get the spinning clipboard problem) right click on the shortcut you use to start the game and then choose the Compatibility tab and make sure you run it in 'Windows 98/Win ME' mode (in the Compatibility mode area the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' is checked).' I dont believe Intel has an issue.

If you still have problems you want to also set the Privilege Level for the program to 'Run this program as an adminstrator.'

Vista needs fast hardware so depending on what you are using now... well I would just make sure you have the drivers handy before you start.

Mine has issues with AHfilm that crashes especially with lyric1s voice for some reason. I get passed that by removing voice from beginning to end when I fly with him and then I can view films with no problem.

IExplore stops responding quite often too but firefox doesnt seem to have that problem. IExplore is junk I think.

I have Intel so I dont have the spinning clipboard problem and I have a lot of memory. I tested it last night in a huge con/friendly fight where cons and friendlies both were disappearing at just 3k distance and my frame rates never suffered.

I don't know if it is still open, but if your gonna re-install anything any time soon, try to get into the Windows 7 Beta.

I know you guys have talked about it before, and the general consensus was that Windows 7 was just a really expensive service pack...  Really couldn't be further from the truth.  I love it!  It's so fast, so easy to use, the new toolbar is ingenious, and the best part is that it doesn't bog down my video games!  It plays just like it would on an XP system.  Granted, it does use up a little more RAM than XP (to be expected, programs do that as they get newer), but nothing to really bother anything.  Oh, and everything that works on Vista works on Windows 7, so drivers were not an issue (the new auto-driver downloader is freaking awesome as well).

Anyway, that's just me butting-in!

Uhm, you do realize you just explained everything a new service pack does? Windows XP SP3 was a good upgrade from SP2, yes it had its troubles for a little while, but the new features are somewhat helpful.

Well, I wouldn't really call this a service pack, there are a lot of very key differences in how the operating system performs, looks, and feels that go far beyond what any service pack ever has.  It's hard to really portray to others who haven't used it, especially since most are very skeptical of it already without giving it much of a chance.

There has also been talk of giving Vista users a free upgrade to Windows 7, which is really what needs to happen in my opinion; 7 is leaps and bounds over Vista.

Better described as a service pack with a new paint job.  Windows 7 is built from Vista.  The biggest changes are the default settings they are choosing over what they did with Vista.  But if you really want to, you can make it exactly like Vista, without a whole lot of effort.

It will be less buggy that Vista, by virtue of including all the bug fixes from Vista, and by disabling many things that caused a lot of grief in Vista.

Yes, I have already delved into Windows 7.  Took me 1.5 hours to turn it back into Vista.  Still has the same exact memory and thread manger as Vista, including the bugs.

It should be free to anyone who bought Vista.  To charge any more than that would be criminal, in my opinion.

Fair enough, but if you guys get the opportunity to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7... Take it.  The things they changed/shut off/turned on made a huge difference in my book...  For example, they fixed the UAC system for the most part... thank god... (I would've killed someone if they hadn't)  I'm still gonna put in feedback that they make a checkbox or button that says "always allow this program" for those that use UAC.  Hopefully they implement it.

Mind if I ask what you changed to make it mirror?  I wanna have a more-or-less side-by-side comparison of both OS' for a buddy of mine, this sounds like an easier way to do it.
