Systems damage on Ships
« on: January 05, 2001, 09:07:00 AM »
Dunno if there are plans for this, I assume there is..

Be nice to be able to affect a ships fermoance based on hits.  A torp to the stern possibly preventing the ship from turning, reducing its speed, more hits actually stopping the ship dead in the water.  Love to send a torp at a ship where I have no chance of missing

Bombs to the superstructure, possibly killing radar for the fleet. Bombs to the turrets knocking them out of action.  You get the idea.

Ohh yeah, and toughen them CV's up!!

Yes!  Loss of radar, loss of ack guns, etc etc etc. Just like a land base.

I think there needs to be some damage modeling!
the way it is now unless you sink the thing you hardly know if ya hit it.
 Cruiser for example:
if a round hits one of the 8"s make that turret smoke for about a miniute and have the barrels all twisted up and funky, a torp hit, make where it got hit smoke for a miniute, put a big black splotch there and give it a list to that side.  A hit in the stern would cause it to slow or stop smaok a while and then its a sitting duck and will be left behind by the fleet.

And how about some different speeds for the fleet besides full throttle? so far its either fulll speed or sunk, thats your options.  But mainly the damage modeling, having it where its either fully operational and moving at full speed or sunk being the only models now is kinda hurting game play.

I would like to drop a trop/bomb and see BOOM a big puff of smoke and some twisted metal and or a list.

Hmmm.. as far as I kow it only took 6,000lbs to sink the CV.. I caught a CV all by its lonesome in my b17 and dropped 6 1k bombs and said buh-bye to the fleet

2 1000lb eggs will do it too.

You want black splotches, you want twisted guns, you want smoke, can we give the people screaming about framerates your phone number when they are implemented?
Eye candy blah, a text message saying u destroyed rudder, or engine 1, or destroyed #2 8" turret is enough for me for the time being.

.umm.....thats garbage
Me and alot of other people who bough expensive machines with our hard earned money did not do it to have to sit back and watch crappy graphics because the whiners with their Pentium 200's dont feel like getting with the 20th century.

Besides hangars SMOKE fuel SMOKE! lots of thing smoke when destroyed why not some ship components?

And since when has a game been dictated by the users systems?? if that were the case we would all still be playing pong.  The system requirements for AH are very low compared to most thing that have come out.  So god forbid there be some graphics that are actually nice, that migh cause someone with 2 mb of vid memory to have a FR studder.

I dont give a damn to see "ship destroyed" in a friggin text bar, what is this zork!?
I want to see smoke, damage when i put the hurt on a boat I want to see it!.

I don know about you but I wouldent pay $30 a month for "ship sunk"

S! all

Seems to me that the Ships are not that difficult to sink with bombs and torpedoes.  I have several times sunk a cruiser with a Tiffie's 2 1000lb bombs.  (As far as I know it had no previous damage)  On the other hand, they take a LOT of 8" shell hits to go down.

The Wobble,has a point,sternly stated, but a point nonetheless.
Another point may be that we do not have any AP bombs and are using HE bombs to do the anti ship work. The cruiser has armor on it and a armored anti torpedo belt, it can take a few hits.also for a AP bomb to work it needed to be at a certain height to achieve enough speed to penetrate the armor. a low level drop would bounce off(well you get my point).
The other night i drooped 2 salvos of 2 500kg bombs on a CV from my JU 88. then i dove on the ship and sent off pairs of 50kg bombs as i went down as i dove in i watched my first pair hit the CV and my second pair straddle hear MAN WHAT A BEAUTIFUL THING IT WAS,then the 5inch flak killed me.
Their is always room for improvement that's life, TY AH, for what is and what has yet to come.

How about every sim and game on the market today?
I am being realistic, if HT ever gets time to work on smoke effects and its affect on framerates (hopefully one day..) I'd love to see it.  Imagine it, tracers everywhere, flak everywhere, and now big clouds of smoke, for as much as 50% or more of the client base, smoke takes frames down at least 50%.  Its a solid issue.  Would look good though

The effects you want will hopefully come one day, but for now a compromise is needed.  HTC has stated its minimum requirements, the fancy shmancy eye candy is abit much for those minimum requirements these days if you ask me, but, what game's minimum specs aren't these days.  If you state minimum specs you have to support them.  The more machines AH runs on the larger the potential market.  The smaller the market, the smaller the income, the smaller the development budget.

BTW Wobble you want all this, and all that, why don't you contribute with yer wallet, after all its the subscribers that finance all these updates, and development.

After all you pay nothing to enjoy your H2H and rant about I want this, I want that, this sucks, and so does that, and wouldn't it be great..

I just offer sugggestions, i dont demand anything. NOTHING sucks..
Like You said its about the minimum sys people, why now have some noreal graphical like EVERY other game out there, so you adjust smoke levels, hit sprites and other stuff like that, level of detail and other things, the thing thats holding the potental for better graphics back is the fact that there is no system scalability to work with, there needs to be more settings that just resolution and clipping distance..

BTW I love it when you bring up that Im not a paying costomer, it shows that you dont have many valid points left so you try to play that like some kinda pathetic Ace card...
