Armed Assault
« on: March 14, 2009, 05:47:41 AM »
My older brother gave me an extra unopen copy of Armed Assault: Gold Edition that he had laying around.  Before I installed it, I wanted to know if anyone else has played it and what mods or add-ons they recommend and where to get them.  I know that the game unpatched is kind of a buggy broken affair but I've heard that with all the patches it's a rather decent game, almost as good as the original OPF games.

So any recommendations on mods or add-ons?

There are a ton of mods/add-ons you can throw onto ArmA, it's a pretty addicting game to play online with a good squad.

I used www.armaholic.com for all my mods.

the best game mode is warfare online, however most warfare servers have a no mods requirement so make sure you organise any mods you really want so you can run vanilla ArmA.

Also, some mods don't play well with others so your best bet is install all mods into their own directory and use command line switching to specify which one you want.  The switch is -mod=dirname and the mod files themselves need to be in a subfolder called "Addons".  Oh and you really want the switch -nosplash until you like a 3 minute long intro.

Thanks for the tips.  I downloaded the Arma Launcher so I can keep the add-ons organized and hopefully prevent any conflicts.  I noticed that there were some WW2 skins, is there also a WW2 campaign?

ARMA is  kind of dead in the water, with Arma2 coming out so soon after, most mod makers put them selfs on hold.

A shame kinda, like Arma was just a tease.

Yeah that's the problem, they stoped working on arma1 updates and such, and moved directly to making part2.

Look into playing on the Tactical Gamer (TG) server. They are still very active in ArmA and they have two large mods that add quite a bit to the game to make it even more realistic. It's not a run-n-gun type game though. You have to have a more realistic mindset when playing it. Fun stuff though when you have large groups using teamwork. Get all the updates and mods then give one of the TG servers a shot:
