It's an Indy Special!!!...They tried to copy a Horten's design which came later..would have been better for the movie if they used a Ju-52 or a Fw-200.

I don't see how using a real plane would have made the movie any better.  My reasoning is this: 1) the movie is about fantasy, thus a fantasy plane would/should not detract from it, 2) it is one of the best American films of all time, how can it be any better?

I didn't say make the movie better, it would be better for the movie...if you are going to copy the krauts to be semi-authentic using MP-40s and such, a JU-52 or Spanish He-111 would look the part. The Ju-52 did wonders for "Where Eagles Dare".

Anyway, who says the Ark of the Covenant is fantasy? Keep watching the news.....
