DirectX10 and AH
« on: March 16, 2009, 07:30:07 AM »
Hello,

According to Experts Exchange Windows XP and Windows 2003 will never work with DirectX10.  If AH ever requires DirectX10 then we will have to upgrade to Vista or Windows 2008 Server etc.  I think a major part of the user base is using Windows XP.

1. Can anyone confirm that Windows XP and Windows 2003 will never work with DirectX10?

2. What is HiTech's statement of direction concerning how soon they will require DirectX10?

Thanks,

Slade

You only need DirectX 9 for Aces High

I think a part of his question  is asking if upgrades to the game will ever require DirectX10?

Bingo!   :aok

I am about to purchase new hardware\OS and would prefer to use XP or 2003 for as long as practical.

I think it will be a while before there are any migrations to DX10. No, I'm not saying HTC is lagging behind in the, "technical" world. I think it has everything to do with the players who play the game. Skuzzy knows a good majority of the AH players do not have or will not upgrade to Windows Vista. Therefore I feel HTC would make the wise decision in keeping those players by continuing to use DX9.

Imho, AH shouldn't require DX10 for a very long time, at least in the graphic sense. The game currently isn't pushing DX9 graphically and the new terrain they showed on the homepage looks sub DX10 as well.

Do a google image search for dx9 compared to dx10, while not all reviews are objective, you can learn a lot from reading/viewing them.

Is it a command line parameter (overide OS etc.)?

A link provided with no explanation of why.   Is this like the hacked DLL file from the "benchmarking program"?

If folks NEED Directx10, they know where to get it.   Otherwise, if it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.

I removed that link.  It is highly inappropriate.  The last thing we need is for people to try that and have thier computer system wrecked.

This has fallen way outside the bounds of "Technical Support" for Aces High II.
