I had an odd glitch that gave me some grief last night.

About 10 minutes after take off my text buffer was stuck open along with the ‘tilde’ that expands the text. Thanks to Kansas he suggested I remap my tilde and was able to close the expanded text, but my buffer was still open. The cursor was blinking in it, but it would not type anything. My mouse was working fine, was able to do what I wanted on the clip board, but could not put any text in the bar. I was just stuck open with a blinking cursor. Tried alt tabbing and clearing it from my desktop, but since I could not put it in auto pilot I could not stay at my desktop for very long. Consequently I could no longer communicate with “thebug” for orders. That is when “ghosth” stepped in on channel 150. As it was the 332nd just buzzed around for an hour+ with out action. No ones fault really, that just happens some times. We had zone 3 patrolled that for a while, then north to 91 I think it was, then south west to 92, then south east to the grunt factory and finally north again to 85. We never saw an enemy, let alone fire a shot.   Finally due to fuel we landed at A80 and most called it a night. I think it was a good plan bug, but we could not find a single plane to shoot at.

I'd have traded an uneventful night for what we had. VMF-251's 8 (7 after a disco about 5mins before contact) P-40s got mobbed by 109s of the AKs, and possibly part of the 325th (initial contact was the AKs from the South and behind. We weren't bounced and saw them coming well in advance, but they had ~2000ft on us and our P-40s were already above optimal altitude. Another group was sighted entering from the North, but I can't confirm whether they joined the horde or not from kills and deaths). Managed to get them down low, but even though we dragged them in close where we could negate the 109's climb and speed advantages there was nothing we could do about the numbers. Any time we got on one's six there were three more coming to help him (by actual count).

We were one of the groups north of the AKs.  We remained posted above 82 and helped mop up the B-26s that were quickly vaporized.  Other than that, it was an uneventful frame for us.

  Great plan and simple.  Whenever you can place a defense in depth the CIC has options.  CPT. Picard said it best:  "Nicely done Mr. Bug, nicely done indeed..... 

SAX:

  You are correct, you ran into 325th scouts backed up by the AK's, the rest of the 325th plus 2 addtional squads.  I'm probably that single 109 that flew through your formation at 20K.  In fact at the point where your squads came through we were almost 50 miles deep with stacked up squads ready to pounce.  You guys fought well given the plane set and numbers at that location.

The allies made a quick strike on A85, there doupt about that.  From viewing the film, there must have been three waves of fighter sweep for the bombers to A85.  I notice groups of spits at 5, 12, 17 and 24 k.  353rd ran into the 24 k group but we spotted the bombers below us and radio it in on time. It was a good melee we had that lasted about 10 min or so.

The bug, you have done a hell of a job as a CiC.

13TH MPG had BostonIII's,  set to attack A80 then v91. We let our escorts go free. Headed to target noe. WE saw the furball at 85 as we rallied and turned to hit A80.  Struck A80 untouched,and returned to strafe soft targets. We headed back home around a85 with some 109's in trail.   The 13th, rearmed at 84, and returned to v91 and destroyed the hangers untouched. After straffing down the hangers we were pounced by 190 a-5's .  We had a good night due to our NOE approach.  <S> to all, was fun ride, with crappy planes..

Yeah there were only 1-3 109's I think. they broke after 1 was killed. At that time i think we wandered into the A85 dar ring a lil bit.. <S> Oakranger...

Pretty much describes what happened to us except after being ordered to chase 109's low we got jumped by high 190's. The disparagee in aircraft was telling, the SeafireII vs the 190 A-5 with smash and numbers was just more than  we could Handle.  Not whinning here just rehashing what happend and a big tip of the hat to the axis defense, well planned and well executed
