LCD Screen Light
« on: March 26, 2009, 05:43:04 PM »
I have a 19" LCD monitor that all of a sudden went out. I think the light burned out. I can build computers but I have never took apart a LCD screen. Has anybody here taken one apart and replaced the light?

No I haven't and I googled for replacement lamps and all I can find is ones for projectors.  I've always been under the notion (even with old CRT's) that is something major goes wrong, the replacement parts are either non-existent (by the time it happens) or not worth it.

Well Its not worth it if it gets fixed in the repair shop. They said it would be 90 bucks an hour and 60 for the light. I could buy a new one for that much.

Try this site.  Walks you through the entire process of replacing the back light.

Here is another site on how to replace the backlight.

I included both sites in case you found one easier to follow than the other but both pretty much are written in layman's terms and should be easy to follow.

Hope this helps.

Double check that it's the back light, it could just as easily be the inverter, there known to be one of the usual parts to go in monitors.

Good point and both those instruction walkthroughs I posted also show how to replace the inverter.

mine recently went out and I found it had a 3 yr warranty on it

most companies will pay for return shipping and send you out a replacement upon receipt
