190A-8 vs A-5 record in AH
« on: June 23, 2000, 01:12:00 AM »
K/D against historical opposition:

Fw 190A-5 vs :

Fighters

P-51D           137/136  1.01
Spitfire IX     208/153  1.36
Yak 9U          145/107  1.36
Typhoon IB       26/13   2.00
P 38L           127/63   2.02
Spitfire V       85/28   3.04
La-5FN           34/13   2.62

Bombers

B-17G           132/100  1.32
B-26B           112/53   2.11

Ground attack

M-16            113/54   2.09

Fw 190A-8 vs :

Fighters

P-51D           314/345  0.91
Spitfire IX     539/391  1.38
Yak 9U            4/6    0.67
Typhoon IB       36/24   1.50
P 38L           189/140  1.35
Spitfire V      161/77   2.09
La-5FN          111/77   1.44

Bombers

B-17G           321/201  1.60
B-26B           244/111  2.20

Ground attack

M-16            450/161  2.80

By these stats, 190 became competitive with P 51D with the introduction of A-5. However, this might be explained with 'turn with 190 at all costs' mentality of most Pony pilots   IMO, P 51D is still a better plane.

There is still no turning with Spits, both for A-5 and A-8. The way to kill them are snapshots and high speed maneuvering, where both A-5 and A-8 do very similar.

Seems that Yak is still a mystery to most pilots. Very good plane, but maybe the opposite direction of torque doesn't help them ? Still, the plane feels fantastic after flying the 109. Dedicated Yak pilots will rule the arena, IMO.

No surprise with Typhoon. Only a handful of dedicated pilots and many who just try it out.

The greatest surprise happeend to FTD pilots, it seems. As if the improved vertical performance of A-5 cought up with the big silver plane. Galland was right in his opinion on P 38

Spitfire V is no match for a 190, just as it wasn't in real life. Vulched or not, it can only count on 190 pilot's mistake.

La-5FN can beat 190s, IMO. Maybe the lack of dedicated pilots ?

Against buffs there is no surprise. Both 190 varients are decent buff killers, but A-8 does it a little better

In Jabo seems that better guns and armor help A-8 more.

Opinions, please ?

Agree, P51 is the best plane in AH along 109G10.

I still miss A8's speed on the deck. And as I usually fire only cannons with a loadout of 2x20mm mausers, sometimes one snapshot is not nearly enough 50% times (ever a Zeke survived OK to 2 20mm pings with no damage!!!   PORKED MODEL!!   THAT GUY WAS A CHEATEEEER       ---->J/K)

I flew a bit of Yak in a H2H arena, I dont like its lack of stability when turning, and I dont like its weapons. Is a nice plane, I fight against it as it was a feeded up La5...treated with care it wont be a problem in a co-E fight.

THanks god, as Typhoon is temible. I gave it one or two sorties in A-G roles last week and I ended fighting low lever enemy planes. If kept fast is a damned devil!!!the problem here is the monster torque induced by that propeller. to try to do a loop or an immelmann or a hammerhead is to want to spin.
I learned to have a lot of respect about tiffies when I saw Duma and Funked in action...A 190 can fight them but damned it, a 190 REALLY HAVE PROBLEMS fighting a tiffie!

Hehehehe...well I personally never had serious problems agains P38 in a 190A8 if met co alt. And I managed to kill a lot of them bouncing me...with A5 it is a tad easier but I think that the damage model has changed a bit and P38 are now a bit tougher (and I agree with the change).P38 can still loop around a 190, but now the A5 can cut the loop and catch the 38 on the top while hanging on prop, thing that A8 had serious problems to do...the lower wingloading with higher powerloading of A5vsA8 is a REAL blessing in vertical moves.

SpitV could deal with an A8 because they could reverste heading much faster than A8 so presenting a headon each pass...now with better A5 turnrate Spitv MUST have great timing or he will be catched in a front quarter shot.
Anyway SpitV never was a feared enemy for me in A8.

Or excess of Yak9 pilots   After testing both I like La5 more, is more stable and has heavy punch compared with Yak.

I promised myself never to attack a buff again in A5. 2x20mm is simply not enough and they get me plenty even in 1 o clock aproaches. A8 is a buff hunter, A5 is a fighter

and the better speed on the deck helps a lot too, that allows to do FAST NOE exits while A5 is some 15 mph slower on the deck.

RAM, now you made me like the A-8 even more

A-5 is plane to have fun in, A-8 is a plane to fight in.

One fight each three I get an A8   the hysteria induced by A5 makes the enemy move much more cautiously...just what an A8 wants to happen!!!
I am averaging a 1.5K/D ratio or so in A5 since 1.03 came out....
and some 3.5 K/D ratio in Fw190A8!!!

HEheheehe
