I doubt its Africa, more likey Russia in the summer. Anyway its an MG34 on the tripod mount.

Field  glasses by Zeiss ,I do believe, which in terms of optics is  still a world leader.

Also If memory serves me right these field glasses, at least the ones officers had , were highly coveted by allied forces and often were left behind booby trapped to kill some unfortunate allied soldier who figured it was his lucky day souvenir hunting.

and did ya'll notice that it has the remote firing assembly...so that the gunner can fire from cover ( not very accurate IMO)

i have a whole bunch of german "name this" weapons but they're all on geocities   :(

It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
