These guys are my favorites: Zach Huckabee Band from Lampasas Texas
http://www.myspace.com/zachhuckabeeband
I looked at some of their songs on youtube, but they sound better off the playlist from their myspace page.

Not exactly "my heroes", but I work with these guys.  They're instructor pilots at Sheppard AFB, except for the girl who is the daughter of the drummer.

They're pretty good and they do charity gigs all the time too.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

I live in Indiana now and the entire local scene here is a joke..
For one, every black dude wants to be a rapper and if you have a conversation with one for more than 30 secs, they have a demo on their iPod they insist you listen to..
Second, almost every other musician is either in a Grateful Dead cover band, a Phish cover band, a blues cover band, a country cover band, a classic rock cover band, etc...
There are so many cover bands and it's so pathetic..  Hardly anyone does anything original, and when they do, it's tacky and cliche..  However, Indiana is engineered this away, unfortunately..  Anything that is mildly creative or artistic is automatically labeled the product of homosexuals or unemployed liberal dirt bags..
Anyone who wants to do anything artistically does well by moving away from here..

Born To Lose

He can puke and play guitar at the same time.  Pure talent.

See them in Europe in May.

The Amboy Dukes.  Saw them play at the Livonia Rec Center - a suburb of Detroit, Michigan - 1966ish - .  There were about 75 - 100 kids there.  Lead guitarist was Theodore Nugent.  I liked them back then.

My mom lives on a Michigan Lake not far from Nugent's property.  Every bow or firearm deer hunter in Michigan knows who Ted is. Many Michigan kids owe their knowledge that - for every "hamburger" there is a gut pile - to Ted Nugent.

Long time ago my brother used to listen to Caroline's Spine at bar shows. I don't know where that was at though. He was in the military, so he was all over the place.
