Yeah, Viewsonic makes some quality stuff.  Along with Samsung, higher end Acer, Dell, Apple etc.  I avoid cheapo brands like the plague.  i.e. Spectre, Westinghouse etc

When I was asking to buy a Joystick the majority said buy CH Products. I did and they were right. What I should of asked was what is the Best Gaming monitor?

I wouldn't say there is a best monitor, rather you want to keep a couple of factors in mind then look for the best price. For a monitor thats 22" I would make a min of 1920 x 1080 the "recommended resolution". You want it so the response time is 5ms or less, anything above that on a monitor and you may get artifact issues when gaming. Keep static contrast ratio at least 1000:1, the higher the better though, you have to watch this though, as some manufactures like to post their dynamic contrast ration instead, which is fairly useless. I think I covered everything in basic, hope this helps and I'll try to answer any questions if I can.

The vast majority of 20-22" are 1680x1050.  Resolution may be a matter of preference at this high scale.  If you're playing AH, you can get away with that res, but high end games need some serious hardware to play at those resolutions (effectively).  Ditto on response and contrast.  Warranties are also important.  It's good to know how long they are and for how many dead/stuck pixels.

LG, Acer and others are all good brands.

Samsung's can be good although they were having problems with one of their panal manufacturer's at one point and it was hit or miss if you got a good one or a bad one.  Not sure if they ever got that straigtened out.  If they did then I'd add them to the "good" list.

I have a Samsung 24inch widescreen that runs at 1920X1200 and it was only slightly more than the Viewsonic you are looking at.

I've had the monitor for about 3 months without any problems.

The samsung syncmaster 226BW was very popular for gaming in certain revisions, I cant remember which now but I think there were 3 revisions S, A panels and maybe another the s was the better one I THINK...anyway that was replaced by the syncmaster 226cw which has a 97% color gamut and no letters/revisions on the back which means samsung will be making i themselves. I've the 226cw its a good monitor and I've experienced absolutely no problems with all types of games from quake 3 to AH. Both are 2ms.

You might get away with 5ms but if your gonna go for one read a lot of reviews first.

I'm shopping around for monitors too.  I saw plenty that had 2ms that were decently priced.

One of the ones I was interested in was a 24" Asus monitor.  Does anyone know if Asus makes good monitors?  It got good reviews.

Asus are good solid company especially on a price/performance ratio but I dunno if they have been in the LCD game long enough to be beating other brands which you could possibly get. I haven't had an asus component break on me but I'd rather at least 4-5 other brands ahead of them when it comes to LCDs. Samsung LG NEC Viewsonic etc

Yeah, I think most of the logos stamped on the front of all kinds of products these days are of the product marketer, not the manufacturer. 
When evaluating a brand, it's probably more important to look into warranties and customer service performance.
