Dodgeball anyone?.......
« on: March 30, 2009, 08:44:40 AM »
I stay active playing different outdoor sports through the year, softball, water skiing, football, etc, I thought about getting involved with Dodgeball, At 40 yrs old I still have a pretty good arm and just love the sound that ball makes when you ping someone with it...  :lol  There are several teams in this area and it seems to be growing to be a popular sport.

Anyone out there play on one of these team leagues?  Doesn't seem to cost much more than joining a Softball league, is there any hidden costs or expenses that you will have to fork up for travel?

I just read about the dodgeball open in Obscure Sports Quarterly. $50,000 1st place prize!
"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

I hear you can use a wrench to practice.  If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a dodge ball.

Hockey is kinda still around.  It's not the same game I played growing up.

Think about it though... seesaws, jungle gyms, tether ball... all gone.  Why?  They were only dangerous to those that needed weeding out to begin with.

God I loved dodgeball as a kid... It was the only thing we would play at recess... Now it's been banned at my old elementary because some kid fell down. Load of crap IMHO

Back when I was in school we played a version called Murder Ball.

Good times...

The show Wreckreation Nation had a segment on the dogeball championships in Denver.  At first I though it was going to be weird seeing a bunch of middle age people playing an elementary game but by the end of the show I wanted to get in there and play.  Some of those guys are throwing the ball at over 70 mph.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.
