What's NOE?
« on: March 31, 2009, 06:14:19 AM »
What does NOE stand for and why is it generally frowned upon?

I assume it must be some kind of raid with lots of people involved, but I still can't figure out what's so bad about it?

I agree, its one of my favorite things to up against.(CV raids are fun too)

Lots of targets on the deck, quick up and fight scenario.

Way more fun than having to climb to 15/20k only to find the usual hit and run punkstang,190,tempest and Chogs.

I think they are both fun to fly in, and against.

Unfortunatly there are a couple guys in here that don't care for NOE raids.

They'll be along shortly.

NOE missions are not frowned upon at all.

Doing pretty much only NOE missions in large numbers vs. undefended and isolated fields is frowned upon.

Also sometimes Nape of the Earth

Basically NOE means flying below radar alt so that you create no radar bar in the sector and reveal no radar dots.

When the NOE mission approaches an enemy base it still cannot help the base flashing. Thus a flashing base with a working radar may indicate either enemy GVs or a NOE mission approaching.

WMLute has it right, and for those BISH with poor reading skills  THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH NOE MISSIONS, other than they are over used. The newer generation of players see the NOE as an easy way to capture a base. With 5 guys and a good route into a field almost any base can be taken. With a horde of 25 or more it is completely unstopable, even if the 25 people are all first week newbies.

NOE missions have their place and can be great as diversionary tactics. Unfortunately they have become the "norm" for unskilled players with no imagination.

Isn't that the truth!

Even on the otherside of the coin, I kind of enjoy flying NOE.  It's fun to fly tree top level to get somewhere.

...why is it generally frowned upon?

Its a matter of gameplay preference.

Players in AH generally break into two groups:

1.)  Those who go looking for a fight.
2.)  Those who try to avoid a fight.

There is nothing wrong with NOE missions in and of themselves and, in many cases, they are the tactic of choice when you wish to take a base.

However, by their very nature, they are designed to elude enemy detection and, thus, are more focused on avoiding a fight than creating one.

While this makes perfect sense from a tactical standpoint, some members of the community feel as though it defeats the purpose of logging in in the first place.

I'd rather divide AH players into:

1) those who whine about how other people play
2) those who adapt to the chaotic and versatile game environment and create their own fun for themselves

I wish there were more of the latter type  :pray

2. Furballers: who just like to mix it up
3. loners: who thrive on the 1v1 fight

And its there $15.00 so what ever floats there boat :aok with me.

2 THINGS: 1.  Bish? --  You aren't seriously insinuating the "Bish" are the only ones with poor interpretive skills are you??

2. Unskilled? -- Well thats just plain funny. I love how that word is thrown around in here by the usual "skilled" egomaniacs.
