Everybody and his grandma used flares in WW2...from the groundpounder to the Fighter pilot.flares of all shapes and sizes, from the conventional Very pistol type to the chuck it out the window and light up the planet type, they were everpresent.
So since all I have done so far is state the obvious, the obvious question is how could we use them in AH(or maybe could the game gods build them).Well you could drop one from your plane over a fleet to mark it for your squad to come in and strike it, drop it over a spawn point to give em he!!, check for incoming tanks, brighten things up over a field u are attacking,....etc..
Bellow u will see some cool examples of Japanese Flares, one is a flare bomb it was dropped like a bomb from an aircraft,one bomber could take a bunch to light the target while his buddies bombed it.the other 2 are hand deployed examples, chucked out the window,they very in burn time from 1min and 30 sec. to 4 plus min., and the last example is a special type intended to activate upon contact with see water , a light float.
Also bellow u will see a German Night fighter pilot who is brandishing a bunch of flares on his flight suit,standard equipement.the AR 234 cockpit is of particular interest not the flare pistol mounted on the cockpit side..a permanent fixture.Another point is that many German planes had flare guns or flare gun ports mounted in them as standard fair, this is true for other nations as well.
