I think he probably relies on some of his staff to handle that and doesn't micromanage them much. He's probably the most busy man in the world right now, and some things just have to be delegated. I don't know that but I think it's a reasonable assumption based on what I've seen and heard in the news about how the office operates.
I also kind of think that the focus on what gifts were given back and forth by heads of state and such is really superficial. There is real stuff happening in the world and the news spends entirely too much time on this kind of non-issue.
With that being said, the gifts were embarrasingly out of touch and inappropriate for the office of the giver and the reciever in each case.
But so what, really. It doesn't amount to anything at all, in either the long run or the short. I'd much rather he be working on the important things than spending time agonizing over the perfect gift to get Gordon Brown and his family. I'd also rather Brown focus on real problems that need work for that matter. The whole thing is silly.
