Kawasaki Ki-100

Guys,

Yes I can see other posts here for this.  Lets keep the possibility of getting this gem of a plane alive.  Looks like fun!

I would not mind the Ki-100, but its performance is not better than the Ki-61 on which it is based. I'd rather have the Ki-44 or the J2M3a.

It is an exaggeration when some claim that the Ki-100 was competitive with late-war U.S. fighters. It was 135 mph slower than the P-47N at the altitudes where the B-29s were flying during daylight raids.

I also think the Ki-44 or J2M3 would add a lot more to the Japanese set than the Ki-100 would.

Japanese fighters I'd like to see:

A6M3
J2M3
Ki-43
Ki-44
Ki-45
Ki-102
N1K1-J

Ditto.

The KI-100 would be a nice addition as well if some of the other missing Japanese Army and Navy birds
were added first.

Also the G4M, D4Y, and B6N, would be nice additions IMHO.

I've suggested the Ki-100 before. It's quite capable, but much of the plane's mystique is due to significant misinformation about the July 25, 1945 encounter between the Ki and Navy Hellcats. Initial claims by the Japanese were 12 F6F's downed for only two losses. Subsequent review indicates the losses were one each, and this was because of a collision.

The Ki-100 had great maneuverability, but IIRC it's best asset was the reliability of it's engine, something which means nothing in AH.

Would like to see the Ki-100 added, but not before upgrading the Ki-84la to the Ki-84 lb version.

I think the Ki-84lb could be a quick and easy addition since 99% of the plane is already in the game.

I'm more impressed with the dive speed of the Ki-100, is that information correct?

Not likely. Same airframe, weaker engine, less streamlining (radial engine), means the inline engined version could/should accelerate in a dive faster.

The 30mm Ki84 didn't see combat, I believe. Only made in single digits, right? Also read the Japanese 30mms were terribly sub-par. The 20mms were better off than the 30mms.

Correct, so far as I could find.  Maybe extremely low double digits, but no combat.

In contrast, there were about 500 Ki-84-Ib fighters built.

The number "3" comes to mind. I seem to recall that's how many 30mm versions, but can't be sure.
