Pyro: Yak-9T -> Yak-9M

It just dawned on me that if you take out the NS-37, and replace it with the ShVAK, adjust the fuel tank volumes a bit, you have changed a Yak-9T to a Yak-9M, which was just an updated version of the Yak-9D.

And, if I'm not mistaken, more -9Ms were produced than -9Ds.

Another thing I realized is that the fuel weight and layout for the Yak-9M was the same as the -9D.  Since you've already modelled the -9D elsewhere, that is a non-issue.  Though this variant didn't see serial production until May '44, it is so similar to the older -9D in performance that it would be no problem to use the Yak-9M as a substitute.

And 4,239 -9Ms were produced as compared to 3,058 -9Ds.

The main reason for adding this variant would be for TOD scenarios, Combat Arena, or other historical settings in AH.  It really has no place in the uber arena.

Hi Makarov!

Yeah, I'm back, but only to play in the historical arena/events.  Don't care to play in the Main Arena anymore.  Btw, Mak, you should check the private squad forum at the 5 GvIAP site.  We're having quite a time with il2 beta  :)

Damn, I registered and received an email a while back saying I was going to get the beta...it never came.  :(  Glad you guys are enjoying it. I will definetly pick it up when it comes out.

I'll look for you in the combat arena. Will be good to fly on your wing again.  :)

FWIW, leonid, I talked with HiTech on the phone today, and apparently there is a LOT more involved in doing a version of a plane.  He said something about it having to be a complete FE revision or something to that effect.  I was talking to him about the feasibility of reworking some of the planes just for the CT, and that's how I found out what a major undertaking it is for them.

Makarov,
You got accepted in the beta and never got a CD?!?  You can still get it, guy!  Get in touch with those people at Ubisoft.  They will send it to you, but you need to let them know they screwed up.  You weren't the only one who had that happen to  :)

eddiek,
Thanks for the comment.  Actually, I'm aware of what it takes to model a new plane.  While it is a lot of work to made a new model, it is a few orders of degree less difficult to make a variant of an existing model.  That doesn't make it a walkover, just not as difficult  :)
