worst WW2 airshow.. EVAR

 :furious I didn't think such a thing as a bad WW2 airshow existed, today I went to one..

lets see we had a B17, a B24, a SBD, and a goon..  thats it..

and worse yet, on the flyer/program it listed the B24 as a B25  :uhoh 

oh yea, and it was all static display.. not one plane in the air, not one engine start up..

I put off going out of town for this. :cry

That is 4 more planes our grand children will probably never ever see after our life times.


They will be piloting UFOs and even f4's and vintage f-35's will be how we view sabre's and such from the 50's.

I like the static display portions of shows as much as the flights. That's where you really get to see the details. :)

I don't think you fully appreciate what that B-17G went through.

It looks like they were from The Lonestar Flight Museum in Galveston.  They're still recovering from Hurricane Ike so I suppose you were lucky to see them at all.

The Collings foundation flys a B-17, B-24, B-25 and P-51C around every year, which I just missed, offering rides for a fee.  Otherwise, they just sit there.

I can only think of three or four airshows in Texas a year with LOTS of planes and the pyro and stuff.

Go to Corpus Christi April 18-19.  Blue Angels and stuff.

the Blue Angles were over in Tuscaloosa, AL this past weekend. I heard that Saturday was a great day for it but Sunday it was spitting rain and other nasty surprises all day around here so it was probably passed off and cut short.

The one in Temple is pretty big (it's around Mother's Day every year). They do pearl harbor & battle of the bulge reenactments. :)  I don't know how much of their items come from down yonder where the hurricane hit though. So who knows how large it will be this year. *shrugs*

At least you had Warbirds there, last two airshows I was at the closest they got was a Grasshopper.

The odds of seeing a B24 and a 17 together at an airshow are fairly slim, unless you get the Collings Foundation 17 and 24.  My guess is you got Lonestars B17G and the CAF B24A which sometimes operate together.   I'd say you were privileged to have that opportunity with all of 2 B24s flying in the world right now.  And I believe the number of Dauntless fliers are smaller then that.

Not the original Thunderbird. "Thunderbird", BN-U sn: 42-38050 was scrapped post-war in (Kingpin? Kingfischer?) in one of the Carolinas IIRC.

I still have posters from when it was in Georgetown before it moved to Temple.

Awesome airshow, sad that it had to move to Temple (well, for me atleast, I coulda walked there if I had to)

It was scrapped in Kingman , Arizona . They still have a huge , super long runway from which bomber crews trained . it is about 100 miles southeast of Las Vegas , Nevada . Lots of history all around there .
