Like most have said, you gotta make your barrel-rolls tighter (eg more in the vertical) more a compressed spring than a stretched out spring. You entered the rolling scissors faster than the hog, which almost guaranteed you would overshoot. Plus, and worst of all, IMO, is that desperate attempt at a snapshot before you overshoot only compounded your problems. To take the shot you have to fly straight which makes your overshoot happen much faster.

My advice, in that case, would have been not even to bother rolling with the slower hog, i would have seen what he was up to, and extended out to the lower left (away from his roll), then go into a spiral climb or something where you would have the advantage.

at 22 seconds into the film you failed to take a snap shot as he crossed your gun sight.  You never used flaps and your speed was always greater then his.  The whole purpose of the scissors is to force his overshoot.

I cant add anything to some of the other posts as far as technical skill. Esp Agent 360 Ive learn alot from him.

What I can add is how I think. YOU can think faster than you can fly. But I used to try to think after the other guy was making his moves basically responding to what he was doing, because i was trying to shoot him down silly me.

I try to think how can I out fly this guy and the gun solution will be the logical outcome.

From viewing the film it look to me that you were trying to shoot him down. Go for out flying him first. That alone will change your rolling scissors. If you are thinking  get the shot  get the shot. Your plane will follow your thinking and will put you in a disadvantage position. If your goal is to out fly him you will always get the gun solution at some point.  Hope this helps.

It is a fine distinction between the two and it will make a huge difference

That is exactly what and how I was thinking at the time.  Great tip man, thanks!  It's all about mindset.  Years ago I had it all down to just instinct and reaction, but here I find myself having to relearn it all after a lengthy layoff.  Still, every minute of it is fun, so it's no chore to relearn it at all.
