P-47 VSI

Just so this dosen't come off as a total whine, I am very pleased with your efforts regarding the P-47. However, flying a virtual airplane with no seat of the pants feel is difficult. This is made more so by lack of a visable Vertical Speed Indicator. Why was this placed in an area in which you have to look down to see? The cockpits are to my knowledge are not accuritely modeled to RL so why stick the guage where you did? Can it be moved to a more visable area?

I agree, move one of the compasses down and move the VSI up where it can be seen.

Sounds like a good idea.

In the mean time though, there is a solution.  Did you guy's know that the "default" front view and "front view" are actually two separate views?  I have a separate "front view" mapped to a button on my stick.

By default this view will be identical to your normal "default" front view, however you can adjust it.  I adjust this second front view to be "head down" in the gauges so I can see all of my instruments when I need to.  When I press the button mapped to this view I go head-down in the gauges, and when released I go back to my normal front view.  It works great.

Hope that helps.

You can also map a FrontDown view to the keyboard.

I use VSi for soft takeoff or landing usually, and during those phases, i prefer 'not looking down'.

I'd already figured I'd end up doing a remap Lephturn and Mino. Currently the VSI position makes one take your eye off the outside view and as we all know, one wrong look away and you can lose the bogy. I like to glance at the VSI  when in combat or doing maneuvers to help retain my E.  If this is a step towards customing or making all AH aircraft cockpits a bit more indivualistic then I'm actually all for it. With Speedkeys I can creat a new config for each aircraft no problem. As I'll do for the P-47. I just have to figure what key to remap and relearn.

I have a key mapped to look down to see the VSI.  However, it means taking my eye off the  bad guy, to see it -- something that is not necessary in any other plane that I know of.  For me, this is a handicap.  I can live with it, but would rather not.

Another idea for a quick fix would be to allow the seat adjustment to go further back to bring the guage into view. Present adjustment just allows you to see the top of the guage. Should be an easy enough fix.

My vote goes to swapping the gyro compass with the VSI. I also had another thought while reading this thread (yee gads! 2 in one day!). Would it be possible to code the program to allow each player to customize the instrument arrangement? Afterall, since they're not laid out historically, does it matter if I'd like to arrange them differently? Probably a coding nightmare, but I figured it was worth asking.

cc i came to the same conclusion...

switch the directional gyro and the vsi

personally i have my forward view button (numpad 8) set so when i press it it gives me a full instrument panel view.

works great!

Fester was my in game name until September 2013

Try the kp8 view as far forward as it will go. Then up as far as that will go.  The P-38 in particular gets a nice benefit.
