Rare 2-seat Spitfire up for auction

Article seemed unusually detailed for a mass media article dealing with vintage WWII fighters.

I love the "rare, 2-seat" thing.

Like when someone cuts the top off a pick-up truck to make it a "rare convertable truck".

We could get everyone in Aces High together and buy it collectively.  Like a timeshare!  We'd get one in several thousandth of a year in which to fly it each!

As a historic artifact it is tainted. It's been altered from the original design by putting another seat in there. If you don't mind that I have a Rembrandt that I fingerpainted some extra color in it for sale.  :O

There were historical two seat trainer Spitfires, field modded from single seat versions by both Russia and the RAF.  There were lots of historical two seat trainer Spits made after the war.*  Is this one a mod of a single seat version?  And if it is, if they modded it the same way the historical trainer was made, what's the diff?  It's probably just one of the post war two seat trainers.

<Smacks everyone for being Spitfire clueless>

Its a Spitfire T9 which was the two seat trainer version of the Spitfire IX.  There was a single Spitfire VIII that was modified first to two seat.  It still exists and is being restored to flight in England.  There are a number of surviving Spitfire T9s, most of which were originally Irish Air Corps birds that were sold on the civillian market later.  There are also a couple of Spitfires that have been converted to T9 versions, of which this is one.

The T9 did not carry cannons, just mgs in the outer wings for training.

The IAC, Dutch AF among others had T9s at some point.
