I came at it a bit late yesterday evening, but when I showed up we had the AK's (S! btw) with 15 or so guys steam rolling around in 109Ks and F4U's nice and high. Generally this wouldn't have been much of an issue - but it didn't make for a fun fight until later.
So gather ye children - my group organized around 6 of us: 2x P47Ns, a 190D, Yak-9u, P38L, and a 109K for our side. We blasted out of 107 around 30k to the west of the a/o - and setup shop at around 12k. Our group mostly stayed together and didn't deviate more then 3k from the main circle. When we did find the AKs, generally they were higher then us, in F4Us and 109s.
I must say I was proud of those on all sides. The AKs to their disadvantage came at us in singles and consistently got boxed in by mutual supporting wing men. One would come down from a perch, go into the blender and not come out. Maybe i'm over simplifying it a bit - but our side had our winging down, it doesn't seem theirs worked.
This continued for another 15 or 20 minutes, then a new mass group of F4Us tookoff on a jabo from the field below. Everyone in my group rally'd on the airfield - and proceeded to ruin that run.
Third time is a charm - more 15K plus F4Us - more of the same result. By this time my group was worn down from ammo and fuel - we better then 50% were separated. Had a few rtb's and scrapes.
Was a good job for all involved.
