Your the expert, why ask us?   :D

I initially thought that the above response was a bit harsh...after further research I see that it was generous.

the 9600 GSO and the 8800 GTS use the same G92 chip (except a few flavors that use the newer G94 core) ..  i didnt prove anything other then that flavor of 9600 couldnt be modded to the 8800 GTS. and its the same reason why you can mod some 9600's GSO to 8800 GTS ..  if you knew 1/2 of what you where talking about you'd know this

and here is  the step by step proof of it being done

Most of us KNOW what we are talking about here.   But only one of us has sent a deliberately torpedoed 9600GSO back to the manufacturer.

It isn't a "rebranded 8800GTS", you sending a card back to "whoever" proves this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_9_Series#New_codename_scheme

Quote
It is worth noting that all of the GeForce 9 series is technically similar to the G92 GeForce 8 series (8800GT/GTS 512), except for the use of slightly higher rated and clocked video memory. Also in the 9800GTX+ and some 9800GT, a manufacturing processing shrink to 55nm was added. However the architecture of the G92 is identical, meaning clock for clock identical performance.[/qoute]

If you already got it you will soon find out by yourself I guess. It's a mid-end card from 2 generations ago so it will run AH2 fine and choke on newer titles but probably still be playable.

No troubles at all playing any new title with a ATI HD 3850 card.  Playing Far Cry 2 on settings maxed out FPS pegs at an average of 42fps.  In FEAR 2, settings all set to max, FPS pegs an average of 46fps.  Only game I get a big choke down on is Empire Total War when I have 2 armies of 1000 men or more facing off against each other.

After licking several of the above VC's, I sent them all back cuz none of them tasted like Bacon.  In fact, all of the flavors tasted the same.  How disappointing.  :frown:

am running the PNY 9600GSO w/768 DDR3 - it'll play crisis at 35+ FPS,1600x1200 at medium settings, COD4 45+FPS 1600x1200 max settings smooth as glass

AH2 uses less than 100mb of the 768 available, 1600x1200 all textures and details to max at 60fps

good card for the money and from what i can tell, overkill for AH -  paid about $80 for it, have seen it for $50

You can't trust the "memory used" field, it does not ever display the memory used and the memory available. It's a DirectX flaw or something, so Skuzzy says. You will use more memory with higher texture resolution and with preloaded textures, etc.

I guess you play 1024x768 then because even FEAR 1 didn't manage to run 46fps average at 1680x or 1920x on reviews of hd3850.
