lol, You're thinking of the infamous alt+f4 (windows shortcut to terminate the program) shift+f4 is "ground vis mode". Not sure what it does... I think it puts the icon above the vehicle so you can see it more easily... I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Shift + F4 is View Range.  Short/Medium/Full range are the ranges I believe.

View Range can, for some people, help spot targets on the ground.  I have always used Full Range and can see things fine.

Alt + F4 is Quit Windows Applications.  In case you though Shift F4 was the Quit.

If you have planes in the area to drop smoke, they might as well just do recon for you. Easier to surprise an enemy GV after a plane strafes him to mark him than when a plane drops smoke on him. Once smoke lands all around him he will know an enemy GV is hunting him. ''The element of surprise will be taken away" IMOH.

Imagine loading 30+ small smoke bombs into a lancaster and then carpet bombing a GV base

As Wrongway hansomely put it, bombs
If you drop smoke near your target (I assume GV?), it requires a friendly player to attack your target. Since friendlies are always miles away, I'd rather take bombs instead of smoke!

Darn you Frank! I'm still mad at you for knocking out my M3 on the game-winning run with your retarded P-40.
