Looking for something that goes inside the waistline of my pants, not a shoulder- I have a good one for when I'm wearing a jacket, but I'm looking for one that I can just wear a shirt outside the pants and cover it up.

I'm required to carry it concealed, and I do a lot of traveling. I'm a bit leery of leaving a handgun registered in my name and carried on my badge at home while I'm gone for weeks at a time on vacation, and I also like to have it when I'm driving in the middle of nowhere. I have no faith in my fellow man (comes with the job).

I recommend a Milt Sparks holster, but there is a six month wait from when you order until when you get it.  And, they only take orders now for the first few days of the month, then cut off orders.  You can get another brand if you need it right away, and switch when the Milt Sparks arrives.  Sometimes you can find one on ebay, there are people who order them just to resell them on ebay.

I suggest you try a few.   What works for others, may not work for you.   Miltsparks are probably tops in quality though.

The M1911A1 is an ancient single action weapon that is unsafe to carry concealed.

You would be much better off buying a more modern handgun.

Galco has a great line of all leather holsters, i carry my Kimber Pro Carry ( full size frame 4"bbl) in one and can conceal it wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Ill try to hunt down the model holster i have and post it when i get home. They also make some in nylon, and Kydex ( Blackhawk ) but i prefer mine wrapped in leather  :aok

I work ( p/t just to support my shooting hobby) at a gunshop / indoor range, let me know what make and model 1911 you have and id be glad to do some research for you, ie holster makes, models, prices etc. Anything i can do id be glad to help.  :salute

I've got a Colt Mk. IV.

And I will likewise not go there.

Wow, a fellow heretic.:D  It's nothing that a fortune in gunsmithing can't turn into an accurate reliable gun (provided you work the feed ramp and find the one load your gun likes to cycle). 1911's do have surprising low felt recoil though.

I've put nearly 1,000 rounds through mine, and the only problems I've had with jams or loading are from bad magazines- I mixed and matched to get three good ones and have never had a problem since. All I need to do to make it my "perfect" carry weapon is to get a normal A1 style slide (with lower profile sights) and get an aftermarket grip-safety spur so I won't have a bloody hand every time I go to the range.

I did that, and was happy with it.  Bought it from Wilson, took just a bit of hand fitting with a file, and no more ouch.

I also use a Galco holster, and it conceals just fine under an untucked shirt.  It's not IWB, and it holds a GLock 19, but it's very comfortable and conceals well even though it's on the belt.  Here in AZ we don't get much of a chance to wear coats, so our CCW weapons have to conceal under just a shirt most of the time.
