The thing that you guys are forgetting is that it takes a brain shot to kill the zombie, shrapnal and body shots can incapacitate, but the head and remaining body would still be extremely dangerous.  These types of weapons shell shock living humans and demoralise them as well, they do nothing at all to the zombie. 

IE... The Battle of Yonkers.

Another good question is what type of zombies are we talking about. It makes a big difference of what tactics and weapons are used.

Fast Movers: Dawn of The Dead(2004) and the 28 days/weeks later "rage" zombie

Slow movers:  your stereotypical zombies, dumb slow moving easily killed.
 
Umbrella Corp: Combination of fast and slow movers as well as other mutated "monsters"

I like Peter Jackson type Zombies that lose parts from the slightest swipe. Even if they were zombified 10 minutes ago..

Idk about all of you but after playing left 4 dead, but here is my plan, find me a zoey and two other dudes, let teh other two dudes die in the stand off just before the rescue vehicle comes, and then escape with my zoey and resupply the human race.
