Encountered and filmed INVINCIBLE Flak Panzer
« on: April 11, 2009, 04:34:03 PM »
 :furious <==  Extent of whine.

My squad encountered an invincible flak panzer last night.  This flak panzer survived numerous IL2 strikes, rocket strikes, and did I forget to mention 80% of all of my M8 rounds both HE and AP at point blank.  This flak panzer midway through this onslaught drove right in front of my turret and tracked me with his pintle gun which was even more invincible than the vehicle itself.

This brings up the inevitable question, why does my flak panzer explode, turret stop working, tracks fall off and beam me up Scotty to the tower, with the slightest of injury  :uhoh

When you say invincible, do you mean that his turret would not die, or that he himself would not die? Because I have seen a new kind of bug on many occations, were the turret is infact dead, but there is no smoke.

So wheres the film?
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

There's your problem right there . . .

If it had a pintle gun, it was not a flak panzer, ergo your problem . . . sounds more like a Tiger.

Probably meant the hull gun.  Sometimes they are near impossible to kill.  Turret them, sure.  Easy.  Outright kill them, it depends.

I've been on both ends.  Got tracked outside of town just as we lost a base.  Spent the next 20 minutes or so plinking at planes in my with the hull gun.  Getting shot at by town ack for 20 minutes is annoying.

I've also hit a wirble 19 times in a panzer before it finally went boom.  Never run film until three or four shots before they finally die.

My advice, run film.  They blow up faster.    :D

I knew what he meant, but sometimes it's more fun to point out mistakes with a bit of humor than to say "Silly noob, it is a hull gun, not a pintle gun."

But at least he knows it is a "turret" and not a "turrent."  Not sure what kind of linguistic idiocy has taken hold of today's average AHer, but I have seen and heard "turrent" more often lately than simple randomness would generally indicate.

Hmm -- was that a hijack?

One word:

shratnel

Which I find most disturbing in that you get hits with a google search

:rofl First hit on Google for turrent:

1.  turrent  170 up, 22 down
A common misspelling of the word "turret," usually made by people with a fourth-grade education.
Turrents r kOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I intentionally left the film out because I didn't want this to become some sort of cheat allegation.  I am rather asking why others are invincible and I go BOOM!

Film is titled HULL.ahf  http://gruppeoutlaws.50megs.com/box_widget.html

After this post I had to try the Wirblewind to see how quickly I would be disposed of.  Just for giggles during a fight for a base, I managed to make it onto the enemy field and took quite a few cannon rounds.  This after about 3 unsuccessful attempts.  One of the cannon attacks did take out my turret.  I was instructed to go to the end of the runway and use my "hull" gun.  There I was able to kill 3 more planes attempting to take of and damage at least a half dozen more.  I finally ran out of MG rounds and went into a nearby hangar where to my surprise, there were supplies.  I resupplied and headed for the bomber hangar when I was sent to the tower from one shot by manned ack.

Now, back to my question.  Why would a single manned gun round be more powerful than 80 rounds HE and AP combined? Add in some 303s and not even able to track the thing.

You can turret a Whirble with ease.  Heck, you can turret 'em with .303's.

But it takes a bomb almost to send one to the tower.  (though an IL2 will pop one)

Wish HTC would tweak both the whirble damage model and the new T34.

I have laid into a T34 with 50+ rounds from a manned ack before and did zip.

Easier to kill a Tiger in a manned gun than a T34, which seems a bit "off" to me.

Sure I "get" the sloped armor and shoot them at "x" spot, but I always thought a Tiger would hold up to a 37mm better than a T34.

I remember when it 1st came out you just had to shoot CLOSE to a T34 to pop it's turret.  I think HTC might have tweaked it a bit too much the other way.

I think 37mm should do diddly to a tiger. Maybe track it at maximum but nothing else.
