Its about "where" you hit, and "how" you hit. The angle you hit the hull is just as important as what you hit the hull with. From what I've read the set up on armor vs hit in Aces High is one of the more complicated calculations that is made in the game. Did you ever notice that the "good" GVers have a tendency to have their tank angled to where the enemy are? You would think that keeping your nose pointed strait at them would be the best position, with all the armor there right? By turning your tank on an angle your added another angle to the hit calculations which brings in a better chance of the round deflecting off than penetrating. GVing isn't all about brute force.

You were shooting him in the front armor, at an angle.  Not the best way to do it in an m8.  Killing a flak with an M8 is really easy.  First shot you hit the turret, then drive around behind him, at close range it's an average of 3 rounds right into the flat panel on the back to kill a pnzr/flak.
To each their pwn.

I have seen this on several occasions on a flak and a panzer and a m-3. The turret is smoking and the guy is still shooting you may think his engine is out but he is still driving. What we found is that it may be due to a incomplete log-in. The guy i had smoking i pm'ed and told him he wouldnt die. He was cool about it logged out came back and let me kill him to make sure he could be killed.

have laid into a T34 with 50+ rounds from a manned ack before and did zip.

Easier to kill a Tiger in a manned gun than a T34, which seems a bit "off" to me.
With all due respect, I believe you're working from too small a sample size.  The T34 is still incredibly vulnerable to the manned gun.  I drive the T34 a lot, and I have driven onto many a base with both models of it, many times, and I can assure you that on average it only takes probably 5 to 10 rounds from the manned gun not only to take a T34's turret, but to kill it outright.  The T34s, either model, are at least one order of magnitude easier to kill from a manned gun than the Tiger.

And don't get me started on the T34/85's turret.  It's made of paper mache.  I've looked up the numbers for the thickness of armor on the T34/85 turret, and I just can't see how that is justified.  Almost anytime any gun in the game hits that turret, from any sane range, it's gone.

Hello Chilli,

Wirbels are only easy to kill with tanks.  I always try to keep the frontal armor towards the M-8.  I have regularly charged M-8's with just my hull gun intact.  At the least I am usually able to shoot the tires out and leave the area, at the worst kill the tires then the engine and empty every bb I have left into the M-8 for the kill.  You did kill this fellow though, be happy.

Have a great day,
