I have been interested in airsoft off and on for a couple of years.  However, I do not know how to find a field in my area, and dont want to go spending money until I KNW there is a group that plays.  Is there any kind of web-site that lists fields by region?  I live in the cincinati OH area...

Ive had airsoft and paintball, the airsoft was a joke to me but paintball is a blast.  I would suggest getting yourself a tipman for the woods, and any high end used gun for speedball like a dye-dm6.

I just couldnt get over how lame i felt with my little plastic bb's.  Paintball is a real rush at night.

I've looking to buy an Airsoft, and the needed items for the airsoft field I have chosen to go to.
The website of the field is located in CA, in the bay area.
www.sequoiaairsoft.com

All needed information as to what type of field.
I have gotten some small but highly needed advice and help.

The website he gave me was, by my newbie rating, great and packed.
www.kapowwe.com

I chose the

        G608-G36c   Jin Gong JG G608 G36c High-Grade AEG Combo (metal gearbox 365 fps w/ .20g)
      $129.99   $129.99
   jg-g36-mag   Jin Gong ( JG ) G36 G608 470rds High-Cap Magazine
      $16.95   $16.95
   sig-228-airsoft   *** SPECIAL *** ONLY $5 w/ any order - Licensed SIG 226/228 Spring Action Pistol
      $5.00   $5.00
sig-228-spring-mag   Softair Sig 228 Spring Magazine
      $5.00   $5.00
SDMASK3   TSD Sports Full Face Airsoft Mask
      $24.95   $24.95
1-1-593   AIRSOFT MAGAZINE SPEED LOADER BB Speedloader
      $6.95   $6.95
tac-vest-ran   Black Tactical Vest w/ Pistol Holster
      $39.99   $39.99

The total was $228, i estimated $230 + $20 shipping and came to a conclusion that it was going to be $250+.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what site might have better quality, lower or same price, gear and guns?

Thank you,
-FYB

Um, last time I was looking at a new airsoft gun, here was my route: (Keep in mind, FPS IS important. Anything below 400 is not worth touching IMHO)

My gun was a G3 (I love that gun!) by JG for $119.95. Comes stock with:
- JG T3K3 G3 100 Airsoft Electric Gun AEG
- 400 fps (0.20g BB)
- OD Color Foregrip Cover, Pistol Grip & Stock
- Hi-Cap Mag: 500 Rounds
- Adjustable Hop Up
- Functional Charging Handle & Ejection Port Cover
- 8.4v 1500mAH Large Battery & Charger Included
http://www.airsplat.com/Items/ERM-JG-T3K3-100.htm

Systema barrel for the G3 to increase FPS a little more (This claims to fit the G3, but I am very doubtful looking at the length.) $34.95
http://www.airsplat.com/Itemdesc.asp?ic=AC-UPI-Z0933-MP&eq=&Tp=

Electric Starter Kit: $26.50
Description :
Airsoft Electric Rifle Package - Large Battery
- Perfect for your first ICS, Classic Army, or Airsoft Elite Rifle
- Buy a 8.4 V 1800 mAH Small Battery, pay $2 more and get a FREE Large Standard Wall Charger and Bag of AirSplat 0.2g 5,000 BB's.
http://www.airsplat.com/Customkititems.asp?kc=AC-ER-PKG-LG&eq=

~$270. I never went and bought it, as I decided I really couldn't afford the total price with shipping (Which came out to shy on $400), but if I ever do get back into airsoft, (My old gun is a bolt-action 450 FPS Sniper Rifle) this is the package I would get.

I never played airsoft, I did paintball. Worst hit I remember was a close shot in the back that hit right on a vertabrae. It put me on my knees.

Keep in mind that it is required at my field to have an Airsoft gun 400fps & lower.

Yeah, same too. That's why I favor bolt-action spring rifles. When they test your FPS when you first arrive, the spring will be cold, and shoot anywhere from 250-350 FPS when they test it. So basically, you will be safe, and they will okay it. 5-10 shots later, it's warm and firing at 450+ FPS! Thats what my rifle did anyway.

So every time i come and the spring is cold, they will let me through because it shoots 350 - 400fps? I'm just worried that won't happen and then they might tell me that the gun cant be used.

If the spring's cold, it will be stiffer. Actually usually you should lose FPS as you shoot (not any significant amount). You may have air seal problems...

Actually, FPS over a point is pretty much irrelevant. Tokyo Marui's, which have to stay under .98J (300 ish FPS w/ a .2) in accordance with Japanese law, will generally outshoot any clone (which usually have significantly higher FPS), simply because they are made with much higher quality. They're surprisingly accurate and have unnaturally good hopups for a stock gun. However once you get too far below 250 you can really lose effectiveness.

Also, I left out in my PM to you, FYB, that G3 and AR-15 based guns use a V.2 gearbox, which has a tendency to snap at the front in cold weather (below 30 farenheit) with heavy springs. This is something you'll want to keep in mind.

Mine did, but perhaps that's just that individual gun.

FPS must be high for me because I like the person to feel the pain and KNOW it hit them. If you buy a Tokyo Marui (Which I don't touch simply because of their price) you can purchase upgrades from tokyo marui which will be installed before it is delivered which will boost your FPS pretty much as high as you want it to go. Just keep in mind, to get similiar FPS to that G3 stock for $119, I would have to pay about $350 to Tokyo Marui.

Dude i would do paintball if i was you. Paintball has basicly everything airsoft does and more!!! (plus its more of a mans sport  :D )

I dont know if there is alot of airsoft field but with paintball there is MASSIVE scenario games/fields all over the country. On friday i am leaving to Richmond for a 26 HOUR long Paintball scenario game.

If you looking to to more military style guns i would go with a Tippmann A-5 or 98 for starters. They are EXTREMELY reliable. Once i was at a field and some guy accedeitnaly ran over a A-5 with a pick up truck and it still shot fine!

Just semantics, but Tokyo Marui doesn't make upgrade parts, since it's illegal in Japan to have anything over .98j. Some retail companies have upgrade services but it's really just easier to do it yourself. In the end it's about what you use. I've got a TM AK47 that I've upgraded and changed over the past 3 years, up to around 350 FPS (which is all you really need tbh) with a whole host of other parts. It's held up remarkably well to stress it's not been designed for (really there's no amount of abnormal wear at all). If you want to, you can buy a TM, a Systema M120 spring, some steel bushings and a steel spring guide (these are nylon from the factory to make it harder to upgrade to illegal levels) and a better gearset (stock TM gears are great, but again on an upgraded spring they can be a liability as TM tries to make it difficult to upgrade in accordance with Japanese law) like Prometheus or even just Guarder or something... you'll have something that you'll never have to open for maintenance again that shoots 400+. At the same level in a clone, other parts are viable to break, like the GB shell, piston, and most importantly the electronics which are notoriously bad. Recently clones have become much better, but for the most part it's still worth it to buy a TM if you've got the money.

The whole point of airsoft is milsim.

If you looking to to more military style guns
I've never seen a production paintball marker that looks close when geared up. HPA tank and hopper kinda kill the look.

Once i was at a field and some guy accedeitnaly ran over a A-5 with a pick up truck and it still shot fine!
That's not really anything special.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxsnfFB-lo0&feature=related

Note that that's a T56-1, which is basically the chinese version of the AKMS... if it had been a T56 the stock would not have broken.

Depending on the angle, distance and temp out those things can really hurt. :uhoh :uhoh  I can recall quite a few times where being hit caused me to bleed or knocked me off my feet, and then going into school the next day, my teachers must think my parents beat me or something. :lol
