Question and thoughts on FSO Disco Rules
« on: April 15, 2009, 10:13:24 AM »
In last month's FSO my squadron had a pilot Disco early in the frame. He discoed at 22:14 (T+9), it stipulates in the rules that aircraft will be allowed to up until T+15 without asking, and T+30 if they disco and they contact the Setup CM. Here is how the rules are written.

Quote
5. Events and Settings

- Squad Operations will take place on Friday night at 11 PM Eastern.

- Frames will start at 11pm ET regardless of CO's readiness.

- Anyone who crashes on take off or has a mishap may reup without asking but only in the first 15 minutes of the frame, and only if you have not been engadged by the enemy.

- Fields close 15 minutes after the hour except for discos.

- Discos may reup up to 30 minutes after the hour.

When my pilot tried to re-up himself, the fields were closed, so I told him to contact the current Setup CM. The Setup CM said that action was taking place and he was not allowed to re-up. Well, my squadron was not engaged and would not be engaged for nearly 15 more minutes. My pilot who showed up 15 to 20 minutes before the frame was denied participation because of an unwritten rule, frustrating to say the least. Last week in FSO the Setup CM announced that flight was closed for all pilots because action was taking place well before T+30.

So in short, I would like to propose a rule change if the CMs are going to continue to enforce unwritten rules.

- Fields will close for all pilots once engagement has been confirmed by the Setup CM.

Thank you for your consideration,

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I think it's a bit unfair to deny a disco'd pilot a re-up "just because someone, somewhere has engaged the enemy."  If his squad is nowhere near the action and it's still within T+30 (CM can confirm with squad CO if needed), the pilot should still be allowed to re-up.  Personally, depending on my assignment, I might opt to not re-up if it means flying alone with no hope of rejoining my squad (or any other squad in the area).

By quoting you, I am in no way trying to be contrary to your thoughts.  I think that I am interpreting his request a bit differently.

I don't think the fairness of the rule is in question, here.  I think (if I am correct) that he is asking for a clarification (in writing) or an official change of, the rules, as written.  In addition, perhaps, a written clarification of the "unwritten" rules.

As far as my opinion?  I know (from stories) that being a CM is already a hair-pulling experience at times.  If these calls could be made on an as-needed basis it would be great.

Prefer that the original rules were used without modification.  T+30 for all discos.

They where changed after the discussion we had for the prior event

In the near future the FSO team will be increasing the number of CMs so that each side will have a CM assigned to them. At that time we will reevaluate the rules taking into consideration that the work load for the Setup CM has been cut in half and the additional CMs will enhance communications from all sides.

Sorry you are right, I did miss that.  :o

I copied it from my PMs and they were not changed the last time I had went to the Website. Which is why i brought it up for discussion today. I believe that the rules still need to be modified further. This line needs to be removed IMO.

Had a guy disco b4 engaugement last week,(Mayo).  All of our disco's seem to happen right after take-off.  I agreee with the rules applied recently.  Once any type of engaugment starts, no one should reupp on any side. Its pretty fair. We have no problem with asking our discoed squaddie to (get his as$ in the back seat, and enjoy the ride).. Just my 2 cents.. Tuk151 .... :salute

Another thought is, Ask for reuup's til the cm (Blue writing)(GOD) says fields are closed.  Excuse me , I'm simple minded........ ;)
