2. what if 2 fleets run into each other? Will the auto AA retardedly fire machine gun spray into the other fleet? do players have to defend it them selves?

3. Can you pop a pt-baot near a fleet to defend?

Depends on the boat, and the shell that hits it. A PT boat could take a good-sized pounding from .50 cal fire and survive. Throw something like a 5" round at it and you'll see a real pretty fireworks display.

If 2 fleets meet? Dive in a Baltimore-class cruiser and start hurling 8" 310 lbs AP shells at them! I don't know if Otto will open up, but he might.

PT boat spawning in a fleet? Doubt it.

Cannons hurting ships? Depends on the cannon; 8" shells will hurt ships, so will 5". Something like .50 cal fire will be useless, while the 20mm Hispano will prolly put some hurt on one.

I recall Pyro saying that the PTs would be able to spawn from the main fleet.

Was a long time ago, tho, so I can be wrong.

Maybe light ships like destroyer escorts will be hurt by .50 caliber maching guns since they don't have armor, and cargo ships who also are unarmored.

PT boats will be hurt by machinegun fire, though they actually are pretty tough.  They'll most likely take your full ammo load to destroy.

5-inch rockets will definetly do a good deal of damage.  They're just as powerful as 5 inch shells I've heard.

There are supposed to be PT boat tenders in 1.05, which are type of cargo ship.  You probably can spawn from those, and the ports that the fleets spawn from.

My old grandad used to take out ships in the waters around Britain in his Typhoon. (any of you in the UK get a copy of flypast. Great article on him this month. PO Ken Brain)

A full salvo of rockets from a tiffy is the equivalent to the broad side of a cruiser firing. Basically what I am trying to say is this

Typhoon + .salvo 8 + ship = BOOM.

I remember the part from "American Guerilla in the Phillipines" where a soldier was hiding in the bow of the PT boat when they were strafed.  He was curled up in a phetal position and a bullet hit him in the shoulder, then the thigh, then the calf.  6 holes in 1 shot.

Someone posted a site where someone was restoring a PT boat.  By the looks of it, it should be able to survive most gunfire.  Holes were something it should be able to deal with.  Explosion on the other hand....

I've heard of escorts being sank by .50 fire before, but it usually involved hitting the ship's magazine or something like that.  I don't think any carrier should be more than scratched by it.

I wouldn't be counting on any PT boat absorbing too much .50 cal fire.

There are multiple documented cases of Destroyers being sunk by strafing aircraft, using solely .50 cals, and even instances of Light Cruisers being heavily damaged the same way.

It might be important to mention that even 50 cal ammo might be quite damaging to a carrier from WWII.  They had wooden flight decks, so 50 cal or cannon fire would absolutely shread the flight deck.  Wooden splinters would be flying everywhere and the deck would have tons of potholes in it.  Also, except for British Carriers, the flight decks had minimal armor under them, so attacks from above with rockets could cause major damage.  I don't think you could sink a carrier with .50s, but you sure could make a mess out of the flight deck.

There are several films of cargo ships and destroyers being blown apart after being strafed by allied planes.  You would have to get very lucky and hit the magazine or something.
