Suggestion for ground units, similar to CVs
« on: February 28, 2001, 05:07:00 PM »
Thought/suggestion for the everyone.  In the last few days that I have been on I have noticed that very few people tend to jump into vehicles, being it is Aces HIGH and all.  After watching the carrier groups in action, I was thinking it would be interesting if they could add say a group Battalion that could be given waypoint orders by a player the way that they carrier groups can.  And these ground units would have a variety of units (tanks, ADA and APCs) to capture airfields.  Now they would primarily be computer controlled, but people could jump into them, and take control of a specific tank, just as you can jump into the guns on the carrier groups.  I was thinking of this because there seems to be no emphasis on CAS in this game, unless you run into the random person driving a tank.  What do you think?

i juggested this exact same thing to hitech about a month ago. he said he too had been thinking of it, but the biggest problem was with pathfinding over the terrain, since its much easier to make ships go on flat ocean.. youd have to take a partial derivative in the direction of travel of the topography to make sure the gradient wasnt too lareg for any of teh vehicles
