Being in the present U.S. military, 14 years and counting. Here is a interesting story.

I flew on a short vacation and had a stop off and switch flights in Dallas, TX on American Airlines. American Airlines gave the service members some empty first class seats, once the first class got seated. And the pilot came over the loud speaker announcing the weather ..etc ..then he would like to take time to thank the American service members flying on this flight, "Thanks for protecting America. And asked for to give them a big round of applause for them." Everyone clapped.

you guys must be very lucky to be in coutry wich ofers respeckt to his soldires like this, in germany nobody cares about the soldires and what happens to them, for a lot of people, soldires are only war lovers and big a... wich live in the old days bevor 1945....:-(.

Don't be fooled, its not like that everywhere, I heard a question asked the other day on a radio station and it pertained to questions about freedom and socialism and an overwhelming number of young Americans picked all the things they wanted and everyone of the things pointed towards socialism and I had to turn the radio off because it broke my heart. And the reason it did was because I bet a number of those asked the question had someone in there family that fought and died for them to have the freedom to speak the words that came out of there mouth.

I was actually in Saudi Arabia during the events of 9/11... When we returned home we had a greeting just like that at  BWI. It was pretty amazing... I was like an E-3 and there were Generals and Colonels (along with what must have been hundreds of civilians) waiting outside of customs to shake our hands. It was a little weird, but also very cool.

And to piggy back on the "not everyone feels that way" sentiment, here is a clip from "The Daily Show" circa March 2008 when "Code Pink" was protesting a Marine Corp recruiting station in Berkeley.

I love the part where the interviewer (a former US Marine) asks, "Wouldn't it be great if there was some organization devoted to protecting your free speech?" and the woman replies, "That would be great."
