Having flown both I like the design/operation of the T-6/SNJ more than the Yak. The Yak I've flown the most has been modified with hydraulic brakes instead of pneumatic (a good thing!) but retains the pneumatic systems on everything else that should be electric (starter) or hydraulic (flaps/gear) which is cheesy. The bicycle grip pneumatic system on unmodified Yaks sucks.
The CJ-6 to my eye looks better/worse in some ways to the -52. I like the canopy shape and the slightly canted wing. I don't like the single flap on the CJ-6 and like the Yak's tail design more.
Flying qualities the Yak (especially a Tailwheel 52) is light, sporty and very good. The SNJ/T6 is a truck. Coolness factor goes to the North American product hands down. Affordability to the Yak.
Come to think of it I'll take one of each!
