On a related note, Ford recently discovered the secret to making fuel efficient engines - turbocharge a lower displacement engine and give it a snazzy marketing name.  No kidding.  They're bragging about how V8s are so ancient technology, their new high tech 4 and 6 cylinders will make the "same" horsepower with half the displacement because they're using this newfangled gadget called a turbocharger.

And there is absolutely no downside to using a turbocharger in terms of complexity/reliability?  :huh

Hint: Those of us who like Ford trucks, it isn't about being the most fuel efficient or having the most power...it is about turning the key on and having the thing run, day after day, through all sorts of abuse, for hundreds of thousands of miles.
"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."

If you are refering to the 7.62, you are correct.

I do not believe that is the cause of the .45/.357/9mm cal shortage.  I think people are hording those only since the election. I have been buying .45 before the election just fine, and we've been at war since 2003.

Regards,
Wab

I bought all the 7.62x39, 9mm, and .45 cal I could find months ago. The shelves have been bare for a few months Wab. I stopped plinking to make sure I kept a healthy reserve until availability picks up.

I read a neat little forum for SKS rifles called Survivors SKS Forums. A couple people there seem to think there will be a huge wave of MilSurp 7.62x39 coming soon, which should drive the prices back down to $150/1000.

Hopefully it will come down soon.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

As strange as it is all local Wal-Mart's, Bass Pro and Academy in the Norman/OKC area are out of almost all pistol ammo for 9mm, .40, and .45. I went to buy some .45 rounds today and couldn't find squat.

I knew that .223 was getting scarce due to the military demand but pistol ammo? :uhoh

Hmm...

Maybe i should start a factory in mexico to feed the us market. Sounds like feeding the ammo addiction may be better business than drugs soon :D

Same here, Sooner.  Another anecdotal example: a friend went on-line looking for 38 Special ammo a couple weeks back. A Google search turned up over a dozen on-line ammo sources. Every single one was out of stock; the expected in-stock date, for those that listed one, were several two to three months out.
