Kill Markings
« on: April 23, 2009, 04:32:21 PM »
Remembering one of the ideas brought forth during the Combat Tour development era, I think it might be worth a look and see for some future update.  Unlike nose art or skins, the icons would be generated in a similar way that aircraft damage is modeled.  ??? I have no real idea, but hopefully that would not take up much more resources and could be turned off as skins are in graphic details.

I didn't want to hijack this thread:

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,263402.msg3276827.html#msg3276827

But........  :huh Rewind back to the ideas for kill markings for Combat Tour.  Maybe a little more "Skuzzy" friendly (did I just invent a term?)   Still, they would have to be scaled back quite a bit, say one for every 10 - 20 kills.  Imagine running across an enemy with a nose full of kill markings.  Might actually serve some sort of "realism" intimidation purpose.

Im thinking kill-markings would be hard to see for the enemy, so little intimidation-factor!
But it would be nice for your own ego, hehe

Yet another reason the stats should track your streaks like WB did/does.  :aok
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Another alternative to the already mentioned streaks and ratios would be K/D. A 1:1 K/D would give you 1 kill mark, etc. Of course, a downside is that this may be yet another incentive to avoid hard fights.

I dunno guys, i cant count on a single finger the times i have flew past someones nose in six years and checked to see how many kills they have. Another option would be to put a * by the players name, only thing is anyone with **** would be gang banged.

Kill marks were and are a "atta'boy" for the captian of that plane & nation, no one else.

People who fought aces in WWII didn't know it was a ace by the number of "kills" on the nose or side, they knew it because that "Ace" is now behind them pumping hot lead into they're dead six's!

I'd have to say tack on kill markings for how many kills on that sortie so far, but is that possible to paint over the skin for each kill?

I guess you are right it would be more of an ego pumper or reason to take a personal snapshot.  If HTC does decide to do something like this, I am hoping that it would not take on any more resources than the current plane damage or ammo counter features.

Maybe options to turn it on or off, select the type of icon (cross, meatball, aircraft silhouette, etc.).

I'm thinking per plane, the issue I'm seeing with this is is the vets would have their side filled if it wasn't reset, so maybe rather than every tour, every ~6 months? Give you a little time to acrew 'em, but kinda limits how many you can get...
I like the idea though. :)

every 6 months could be as much as 6000 kills or more... ;)

On the other hand, having the tail all white from 6000 markings would finally allow them to be spotted at all during combat

In the sortie after you land kills, maybe you could have kill markings from your last sortie?

Considering many of the skins in game already have kill marks, I don't think it would look too good.

Would it be possible for them to generate after a kill, and have them record the number of kills someone has during their current sortie. You can say it would make people fly more timid so they dont lose their markings, but for people who like to fight (like me) it would push me to fight harder so i can get some nice screen shots on the run way after a sortie..

I don't think so.
Why?
Because nobody would ever notice those markings anyway during combat.

Maybe not the enemy, but if you fly in formation with squadies it could make for nice screen shots. Yes kind of useless but it would be nice.
