Having discos frequently
« on: April 24, 2009, 08:12:10 PM »
It's been a serious issue for me last few months and I've so far been unsuccsessful in finding the cause. Could someone please post a list of items to go through in search for this particular problem?

Thanks

get ping plotter. Its a free program, install it and then check in one of the stickies at the top of the tech threads. Skuzzy posted the address to the servers. Type that in and ping the server every second for 10 minutes. Then post a picture here, or mail it to Skuzzy for him to check.

I am discoing too much also. 4 times last night in one hour.

Ran the pingplotter for 10 minutes but not sure if doing it right. Seems all I get is the last plot with the graph. I was thinking I should be getting a summary of the 10 minutes. Anyhow here is the results.  While watching the progress of the plot I saw several times it would go into the yellow and red area but mainly in the green.

33Vortex, my bet is, your issues have to do with all the DoS attacks going on over the Pirate Bay trial.  It will eventually settle down, but there is no way to know how long it will take.

I have been monitoring the performance and response times coming out of Sweden and they are all over the map.  In any given 30 second window I see variances from 24ms to 175ms.  These are being measured at some very large pipes which normally run 8ms to 12ms.

flatiron, there is nothing that would indicate your problems are Internet related in that Ping Plot, but having Level3 in the path is never a good thing.

Thanks for the info Skuzzy, didn't know that the trial affected the traffic to that extent.

It normally would not have 33Vortex, but the kiddies on the Internet are retaliating by issuing massive DoS attacks against those involved with the trial.

Being the clueless lot they are, they have no idea how that impacts all the rest of the users having to get through the Sweden pipes.

Flatiron, Level3 is bad news because they overcrowd their servers. Skuzzy gave a brilliant explanation of this one time. He mentioned Level3 is an intersection (which it is, in the Internet) and the traffic moving through their servers are vehicles. However, Level3 (the intersection) has no traffic lights, thus when traffic traveling through their intersection increases, the flow of traffic slows down causing packet loss (discos) and moderate to severe lag.

Adding myself to the list of disco kings. DSL is having to reconnect, no matter what I'm doing.

If you are having trouble with your DSL having to re-sync or re-connect to your ISP, then you need to contact your ISP about it.

whiteman, you need to contact your ISP as well.
