P51D and P51B speed chart comparison.

This chart was taken from "America's Hundred Thousand". Let's hope the P51B performs as such. Quite a bit faster bewtween 12k and 17k, and slightly faster at sea level.

Good chart there. I am at a bit of a loss here. I don't understand why the P51B was tagged for introduction into the game, unless it is the 20mm armed version. I don't see any significant increase in performance and certainly no equality on view from the cockpit.

I don't think the P51-B will add anything to the MA, but it's always nice to get variants which were produced in quantity for scenarios.

Pyro said they added it for high performance improvements over the D model.  As you can see, around 15k it is vastly faster than the D, and that will make tons of difference in catching baddies.  The increase in speed at that alt is very significant!

I was dumbstruck to see it, aside from a very MINIMAL speed boost and MINIMAL increase turning ability..its useless.

I cant believe people are actually moaning when we get a new plane. Gez, he aint forcing you to fly it.

Ive waited for ages for the P51B now i got it, im happy as hell!

We need more early variants, then HTC may be able to introduce an RPS, and that would be cool!

 we moan because something else could of been produced that we do not have while they toiled away on the P 51B..like something for Italy or Japan....

I view the P-51B as an added extra for v1.06 (Something they could modify relatively easily that we didn't have before). To say they could have added something else new isn't really true in terms of the work involved. Something else 'new' would have required a lot more work and more time then was required to model the P-51B. I am sure we will be getting more planes (new, that we haven't any versions of yet) in new builds, it will just take time.

I think the P-51B is a fantastic addition.  It's faster (and not marginally so at low to medium altitude), it turns better, and the tradeoff it makes for this is a weaker gun loadout.  That's the perfect recipe for a non-perked MA plane.  Folks will have to weigh things like lethality vs. speed when choosing between the B and the D model, unlike the choice between the F4U-1C and F4U-1D, which except for the guns appear to perform almost equally in AH.

It's a great addition, just like the other 7 planes are...and the next 8 planes will also be great additions...and the next 8 planes...and...eventually, you will probably get the plane you want to fly.  Except for Ripsnort.  They will never model the P61.  The rest of you quit yer squeaking!

Some guys will really make a name for themselves in the P51B. Sory about the lack of brit markings for it though. Malcom hood would have been nice too.

One thing:  If the P-51b is modelled correctly, then it should have serious gun jam problems when firing in high 'g' turns.  This is because the .50's in the B were on their side and the ammo belts had to turn 90 degrees to chamber.

I know some are crying for gun jamming, but if you are going to do that then you would have to start modelling all kinds of anomolies that were present in every ac.
Electrical problems, system malfunctions, insufficient gear support, etc.  If you just do gun jamming, then ac like the P51B will have a grave disadvantage, while other planes such as the Spits and 109's would have no problems landing - they had weak gear supports, so hey, let's be fair and model that too.

My only disappointment is that it isn't "Old Crow"  

Otherwise it is a useful and needed addition to the planeset.

I can only hope that 1.07 will lean heavily towards the Russian/Japanese/Italian end of the spectrum.
