In the end, the winner is decided by the movie industry.  Bluray won because it was perceived by Hollywood to be more secure.

No matter how good a format is, if the studios do not get behind it, it will fail.

<<<< still buys DVDs. No reason what so ever to get bluray. I was shocked that the less expensive to manufacture HD-DVDs did not win out.

Im pretty sure Playstaion played an important role as well with bringing blueray to "mainstream" before MS got their silly external drive for the xbox.

Band of Brothers is also stunning.  Plus if you are into the SciFi series Firefly and the Serenity movie, those were fantastic too! :aok

I'll never support Bluray.  Maybe I should say, I will not support being treated like a criminal.

Yep me neither. OTOH I don't even have time anymore to watch movies - or the desire to do so in general.

I have my projectors, home theater amps etc. collecting dust I havent opened them for 5 years. Dunno even if they work anymore.

I'm either in front of a computer (playing or reading the news) or watch Eurosport on our 10 year old SD tube tv that works perfectly for the job.

Why don't you hook up that home theater system to your computer. Playing games on a 106 inch screen with surround sound while sitting comfortably in a lazyboy is noting short of awesome.

Thrust me.

Even though I have a 2-story house it's wooden construction so I couldn't do it without disturbing the rest of the family. So I use headphones while gaming.

Build yourself a basement "theater" with sound insulation. Invite your wife and kids down once in a while for a movie with snacks and pizza and they'll thank you for it. ;)

I have a separate garage building with 215 sq ft vacant heated space that I'm going to build for HT and gaming use. But it's currently stripped with no walls etc..

And I have no time. Too much work.
